Sorry for the lateness. I got my first job two weeks ago (Papa John's) and they been slaving the kid lmao but they finally let up on me a lil so here's ya'lls update. I made it a bit longer as compensation. -Bailey
I sat up in bed watching some college football game on tv. There wasn't shit else to do anyway. As crazy as it sounded, I couldn't wait to get out of here. I hated being babied all of the time. Plus, I wanted revenge on those punk ass niggas that got me in here in the first place. I never showed it but I was constantly plotting on how I was gonna get them back. Part of me doesn't even want to seeing how I could get more time tacked on to my sentence. That's the last thing I wanted especially since Deon said my name the other day. I got excited just thinking about seeing him again. I couldn't get it out of my head. He was growing up so damn fast yet the time on my sentence seemed to be passing by so slow.
But on the other hand, I couldn't just let those niggas get away with it. I heard the police officer outside of my door talking to somebody and just prayed that it wasn't Devin for his sake. I planned on getting his ass later...much later. And I was gonna take my time with that shit. I don't take to kindly to betrayal. Especially when it's from somebody who I defended and let into my home with my wife and kid. I watched as Miss Mabel walked into the room with a plate wrapped in aluminum foil. She gave me a small smile.
"Hey, baby" she said.
"Wassup, Miss Mabel. How you been?"
"I've been better" she sighed but gave me a reassuring smile as if she didn't want to talk about whatever was bothering her.
I decided to take her mind off of it by talking to her about something that I knew would lighten the mood.
"Did Bahja tell you Deon said his first word last week?" I smiled.
She pulled up a chair next to me.
"Yes, she did. I think that's incredible. Hopefully, we can get him to say more words soon"
"Man, I don't think I could take anymore" I chuckled. "Him calling me 'daddy' was too much right there. I damn near jumped out of this bed"
She laughed with me.
"I'll let you know if he says anything more. I brought you some food" she said handing me the plate.
I rubbed my hands together eagerly before I took the plate from her. I was happy to see that it was still warm.
"Oooo, you always know what to bring me. Whatchu made?" I asked lifting up the aluminum foil.
"Just a lil soul food to help you heal up" she said smiling warmly.
I revealed a plate of fried chicken, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and yams. My stomach was doing somersaults right now. The hospital food they been giving me in here is maybe a little better than the prison food. But it ain't nothing like getting some soul food after eating what felt like a lifetime of shit.
"I love you" I told her grabbing the drumstick and taking a bite.
Miss Mabel hands down made the best fried chicken I ever tasted. She chuckled.
"I love you too, honey. Eat up na"
After a while of eating Miss Mabel spoke up.
"So Bahja kicked out Devin last week" she said.
I shrugged and acted nonchalant about it but on the inside I was more than glad that she kicked that nigga out. She had me worried that she wouldn't do it the way she was acting when I told her what he did. Almost like she didn't believe me or some shit. They must've become real good friends while I was away for her to question me. But it was good to hear that in the end she chose her man.
