"I left him a voicemail yesterday morning but I don't even know if he listened to it" I sighed sitting at the kitchen counter venting to Miss Mabel.

I was starting to lose my shit. It had been four days now since I've seen Chresanto or our son.

"Maybe he just needs some more time, baby"

"Cool. He can take as much time he needs away from me. I understand that but he has no right to keep my son away from me like I'm some...hazard!"

"Try calling again" she suggested:

"Mabel, I've called him at least a hundred times. He doesnt want to talk to me. I'm about ready to take it into my own hands and pull up to Cedric's house. He'll probably know where he is. He was the last to see him"

"Bahja-"

"You know what? That's exactly what I'm gonna do" I said grabbing my phone and keys off of the counter. "I'll see you in a bit, Mabel"

"Honey, he'll be back soon"

"'Soon' is too long, Mabel. I need to see my son now" I said storming off toward the front door. "And whether Chresanto likes it or not I'm still his mother and I have right to see my chi-"

As I flung the door open, there in front of me stood Chresanto with Deon on one arm and the keys to the house in his other hand like he was about to open the door. We stared at each other for what seemed like forever but was only for a few seconds. Chresanto decided to make the first move by handing Deon to me. I was ready to give Chresanto what for moments ago but now I was reduced back to the pitiful ass of a fiancée desperate for forgiveness that I had become that day in the courthouse. I took Deon from him and gave a slight smile at the baby as he smiled at me.

"Thanks" I mumbled.

Chresanto ignored my gratitude by moving past me into the house. I closed and locked back the front door and turned to him just in time to see Miss Mabel coming out of the kitchen.

"Hey, honey!" she beamed at Chresanto.

They hugged.

"Hey" he said dryly.

"You been okay? You hungry?"

"Nah I ate earlier" he said and then turned to me. "You said you wanted to talk"

He had listened to my voicemail after all. He must be willing to work on us if he's willing to talk to me, right?

"Uh y-yeah I do"

I looked at Miss Mabel and she took that as her cue.

"Got some grocery shoppin' to do anyway. I'll leave ya'll to it. I can take the baby if you'd like" she said holding her arms out for Deon.

I knew that it would be best to have Deon with her considering the discussion Chresanto and I were about to have. I handed him to her and she gave me a smile as if to reassure me that everything would be fine. I hoped it was true. She took her keys and left Chresanto and I alone in the house.

"You mind if we go sit down somewhere?"

"Sure" he said leading the way upstairs to the tv room.

He sat down on one couch. I contemplated on whether or not I should push my luck and sit next to him. Deciding against it, I sat on the couch adjacent to his. I looked at him for a minute simply fiddling with my nails. A few days ago I would've given anything to speak to Chresanto but now I had no clue what to say.

"I'm here now, Bahja, so what's up?" he said and I could tell he was losing patience.

I nodded.
