Accidentally Overheard ( A Before You Exit / Riley McDonough Fanfiction )

Chapter 5

" No Melody don't do that ! " I said running down the stairs. 

" Corbin I thought you said you were going to watch her for me ! " I shout at my brother as I take the keys Melody was trying to stick in an electrical outlet away. 

" I got bored. " He said simply and I swear if I wasn't the nice person I am I would've hit him on the spot. 

" Why doesn't anybody want to help me with her ?! " I practically shout. Lucky for me the door bells rings because I was not having the best day ,and I knew I would end up getting in trouble for something I said or did. I put Melody down, run over to the door, and open it.

" You have no idea how glad I am that it's you and not one of my parents friends. " I said leaning on the door and Riley laughed. His laugh however soon turned into an expression of pure worry. 

" You don't look so good. You feeling alright ? " He said and somehow as if on cue, my legs fail me and I fall to my knees. He kneels down and tries to help me back up but my legs just can't anymore. 

" I'm a hopeless cause. " I say still holding on to the door for support. 

" You most certainly are not ! " He said moving a stray piece of hair that fell out of my ponytail behind my ear.

" I most certainly am ! " I say back. I hear Riley mumble something under his breath but I'm not sure what. 

Suddenly I feel Riley picking me up and carrying me bridal style into the house closing the door behind him. I don't stop him because I know I couldn't get up or do anything myself. I feel like a maid around my house except I don't get paid minimum wages or more. Plus now I'm watching not only my little brother but Melody too. I'm starting to wonder if this might have been a bad idea after all. 

Riley doesn't set me down on the couch he just sits down and holds me in his lap. I'm pretty much asleep by now though so I don't object. I haven't slept very well the past couple days and I'm exhausted. I'm so close to being asleep I don't even realize when Melody runs up and joins us ,and before you could blink an eye I was out. 

I wake up and Riley's not here anymore. But neither is Melody. I rub the sleep out of my eyes and look closer. I'm not on my couch anymore. I'm not in my living room anymore. I'm not even in my house anymore, but this place seems... familiar. Like I've been here before. 

" Hey you guys she woke up ! " I hear someone shout and I jump. 

I turn around and see Connor sheepishly grinning at me. Suddenly it hits me like a ton of bricks. I must be at their house ,but how did I get here ? 

" Hey Sleeping Beauty. Feel any better ? " Riley asked me and I nodded. I really did feel better. It's amazing what a little sleep can do for a person. 

 " So where's Melody ? You didn't leave her with Corbin did you ?! " I ask sitting up a little worried. 

" Of course not ! We brought her over here when we took you over here. She's upstairs with Toby right now. " Riley said laughing. 

" Mommy ! Mommy ! What's a fuck ? " Melody said running down the stairs towards me. 

" TOBY JAMES MCDONOUGH !!! " I shout at the top of my lungs. Why the hell would you say that around a little girl in the first place ?! 

" I DIDN'T DO IT I SWEAR ! " He yells running down the stairs after Melody ,but she was already beside me. 

" Then where did she learn that word ?! " Riley exclaims. He seems just as mad as I am if not more ,and then you have Connor who is trying his best not to laugh at the whole thing. Yep he's definitely the most mature, I think rolling my eyes. 

" She um... She... She heard Tank say it ! " He shouts pointing at Tank innocently sitting on the ground. Connor can't stand it any longer and falls on the floor laughing. Riley and I are ticked off and Toby can clearly see it. Well and then there's Melody who is just sitting on the couch laughing at Toby getting in trouble. I'm not sure she realizes exactly what's going on though.
