*** C/N - child's name ***

"Come on! C/N we have to get going! He's going to be at the house in 20 minutes, and we still have to clean up all of your toys!" Your child looked directly at you, a smile creeping to their face before they raced in the directly of the slide again. It was a ten minute walk to your house, and if you guys didn't leave right now, all of the things that needed to be done would never get done. But seeing how their face lite up everytime they went down a slide or ran to the swings convinced you to give them another couple minutes.
Being a single parent was hard, especially since you were going to school and trying to balance a job. But things popped up suddenly, and you had to admit your child was the best thing that could have ever been brought into your life. You didn't regret any of your decisions. You loved them with every single cell in your body. That was your baby.
As promised you gave them a couple more minutes, and after that they ran up to you smiling, holding their hands out to be picked up. You smiled, and scooped them up, stopping a moment to slip earmuffs back onto their ears. Even if it was the dead of winter you could never stop a child's ambition to play.
The walk home felt longer than usual, with your child on your hip. Their small head resting softly on your shoulder. They hadn't said anything the whole way, so without looking you knew they were sleeping. That only meant you would be forced to clean up the toys by yourself once again.
At first glace, your porch looked empty. He wasn't there yet, thankfully. But as you got closer you recognized the familiar grey car, and his head was in clear view. You sighed. You didn't want him to see your house such a mess but it would have to be.
Your friend, Makoto, was having renovations done to his house and had asked if he could spend the next week with you and your kid. You had an extra bedroom, so it was nothing to worry about. There was plenty of space. The only worry you had was that he was going to get spaced out by the fact that you had a kid. He probably wasn't used to the yelling, and playing, and especially the crying.
That's why you almost turned him down.
But how could you do that?
You had had your eyes set on this guy since you met two years ago. And now you had the chance for him to step into your life and see just how busy and caring you were. You thought the experience might make him feel something for you.
Or make him absolutely despise coming here.
You really hoped for the first option.
You walked onto the porch, and immediately had yo shush the brown haired boy. He covered his mouth, his lips still obviously tugged into a smile. You could notice even with his hand blocking it. "Sorry, I didn't even notice that they were asleep." You smiled, and reached into your pocket for your keys. "That's okay. Usually once they're out, they're out." You opened the door and immediately walked in. You could hear him rustling into the door with his stuff but choose to ignore it. "Make yourself at home. Don't mind the toys. I need to clean up. I'm just going to put them to bed really quick."
Once you got back from putting them to bed, you turned on the monitors in the hall and kitchen and proceeded to the one in the living room. But you were stopped at the sight of Makoto on his knees in your living room, scooping up your childs toys to out them away. You smiled half heartedly. "You really don't need to do that." He looked back with a smile covering his entire face. "It's my pleasure." Before he could see the obvious blush that covered your face, you walked in the opposite direction to turn the third and last baby monitor on. It seemed excessive to have this many but it was your first child. And it seemed necessary.
The two of you made casual talk while he sat in the living room and you stirred around the kitchen making a meal for the three of you. An hour into it you heard a soft voice come from the monitors and you were gone in an instant to gather them from their room. And as soon as their feet hit the floor, they were out the door running to the living room where the toys and Makoto were. Every time he came over he never ceased to amaze you on how good he was with C/N. It filled every cell in your body with warmth.
Three days passed like nothing, and Makoto was getting more and more comfortable being with you guys. On one particular night he decided the guest room wasn't working anymore. And joined you in your own room. Even though the two of you weren't dating, you both knew it was bound to happen. Especially after the, "Maybe I don't need to have my house renovated. Maybe I'll move in here," conversation. At first you thought he was joking but his face was so serious you didn't know what to believe.
The both of you stayed to your side of the bed, for the most part. Every once and awhile you would wake up too close to him and move away. But most times he would gently pull you back so you were cuddled into your chest. For once when he pulled you in, you actually opened your eyes and looked at him. He was all smiles, and giggles. "Can we just stop playing with each other and make this official because?" You smiled and pecked his cheek ever so softly. "You don't mind the whole.." Your sentence was interrupted by the sound of your child calling out your name, but it shorty turned over to them yelling Makoto's name. He shuffled and you grabbed his shirt. "You don't need to get them. I can.." But without a word he was out the door on his way to comfort your child.
You heard ever word exchanged and when Makoto came back carrying your child you felt tears streaming your cheeks. C/N crawled right up next to you, and Makoto joined on the other side. Without a word he wiped the tears from your cheeks and smiled. "If you were going to ask if I minded the whole you have a kid thing, it would have to be a no. I'm a kid kind of guy." He rubbed your cheek with his thumb and leaned over to kiss your forehead.
"We'll talk about this tomorrow."
"We're gonna have to.."
Later that night you awoke to the sight of your kid curled into Makoto's chest, and Makoto's arms gently wrapped around them. It was a sight that you hoped you got to see way way more often.
For the first time in a long time, you didn't feel so alone.

I get super excited about scenarios where they are fathers. It just warms my little soul. Because honestly them caring for a child is so cute. It's my fave.
Who do you think would make the best father?? ❤
