I heard the chirping of the birds, felt the cool water on my fingertips. I took a deep breath of the icy winter air. My hand touched something hard. Something metal. I opened my eyes and saw the night sky, littered with stars. I admired the large, blue moon. I closed my fingers around the metal object and forced it from the earth and ice beneath the water. I sat up on the log I was laying on and looked at the object. It was a glove. A small, chainmail gauntlet. I attempted to wipe off the rust and slid it on my hand. It began to burn and I gasped. I let my feet dangle into the water. I held up my hand to look at it and the gauntlet began to glow white hot. I plunged my hand into the water and it began to boil.
I pulled my hand back out and looked at it. It stopped burning. The shape had changed. It was now a bracelet with a ring and chain. The ring went around my middle finger and the chain was burned into my skin, as was the bracelet it was attached to. The skin on my hand was red and raw. That was strange. Usually, it would heal instantly. But it wasn't healing at all. As I was looking at the skin, a large, black portal opened up beneath the water. I rolled my eyes, jumped into the water, and disappeared into the portal.
