Greed

Cozmel walked over to me and placed his two fingers on my forehead as he had before. We were pulled from the room and I was dropped on the floor of a very nice hotel room. The carpet was cushy, so the fall didn't hurt. I stood and looked around the room. The walls were a navy blue color; the carpet was whit. There was one large bed pushed against the back wall and a small kitchenette. The bathroom door was zebra print.

"You will stay here for the night." Cozmel said and I jumped. I didn't realize he was right behind me. "Tomorrow, you have a task. You will find a demon by the name of . You will kill him and steal the sword that is hidden in his home. When your task is done, you will come back here and speak to me."

"I will, huh? Can't you people ever say please? Does it physically hurt you to just ask?" I asked him. He rolled his eyes.

"Please?"

"Alright. I guess I can do this. But where am I even at? And how am I supposed to find Xerxes?"

"You are in Punta de Mita. Xerxes lives in a very large mansion. It is very out of place. Very hard to miss."

"And the sword? What does it look like? And how shall I find it in a large house if it is hidden?"

"The gauntlet. It will heat up. Not like it did when you first put it on, but the heat will be noticeable."

"Oh. A big game of hot and cold. Lovely."

"I have confidence in you."

"Well, that's reassuring."

He disappeared. I went and fell upon the large bed. Memory foam. I had missed memory foam. I fell asleep within seconds.

I dreamt about being back in that room with Cozmel. I dreamt that Chancellor had never arrived. That Cozmel had given into his old ways, given back into lust. Chancellor did not come into the room as we laid together, but Angela had. She picked my blade up off the floor and came up behind me while I was distracted. She grabbed my shoulder and turned me. When she saw my naked body against Cozmel's, she became furious. I gazed into her melted face as she cut out my heart.

I woke up panting and sweaty. I put a hand on my chest and felt the beat of my heart. I sighed in relief, stood, and crossed the room. I splashed my face with cold water from the kitchenette sink before leaving the hotel. Once outside, I began to look around. The mansion was not hard to find. Cozmel had put me in a hotel that was only a few miles from Xerxes' home. I walked up to the iron gate and pushed the button beside it.

"Can I help you?" Asked a woman's voice.

"Yes. I am here to see Xerxes." I told her as I admired the well-kept lawn beyond the gate.

"State your name."

Valerie. Cozmel's voice rang in my head.

"Valerie." I said.

"Oh! Miss Valerie. We've been expecting you. Please, do come in."

There was a loud buzz and the gates opened. I walked along a concrete path and stopped at a set of large, gold, double doors. Now I knew why he needed to be killed. Any demon who lived among humans and lived this well was one of Lucifer's first . I wondered if he was a deadly sin, like Jeremiah. If so, the only two I could think of him being was greed or pride.

The doors were opened by two men. Both of them were quite tall and looked identical. They were human. Humans in the home of a demon. It wasn't unusual, as the first seven often made humans our slaves, but never more than one. And when they did have slaves, it most certainly wasn't to open our doors. I stepped inside the house. A woman came to greet me. She was a secretary, also human.
