Disclaimer - This is just my imagination gone wild with hints of Sarah's real life thrown in. I'm not sure of the adoption process in America as I'm from the UK and have little experience of the adoption process at all, but please just go with it. Hope you enjoy, please give me feedback of any kind.

It was a summers evening in late September. There was a gentle breeze in the air but it was still warm. Sarah was sitting in her back garden of her rental house in New Orlands flicking through adoption information on her iPad. It had been a busy week having just started filming for AHS: Coven, but it was finally the weekend and she happened to have a couple of days off.

Ever since she and Cherry had separated she had been thinking about having a child more and more. She just finally felt ready.

She had always loved spending time with Abby's children and that had always been enough up until now, but she wanted more.

It was rather overwhelming all this information on adoption, she had started the process months ago, but it was now becoming more real. This exited Sarah but also terrified her, it was something she had wanted for several years now. Her lawyer had said that she would need a couple of character references to help her case with the adoption panel. So she had asked Abby since she looked after her children as often as she could and had done since they were babies.
She had decided she would also ask her friend Lily as she had known her for years. They were both off tomorrow she was pretty sure, so she would invite Lily over for dinner and could ask her then. Lily didn't know of her plans to adopt yet, she had tried to keep it quiet from everyone in case the panel said she wasn't suitable or something. She couldn't deal with being questioned about it all the time, it was stressful enough as it was. Only her Mum, Ryan and Abby knew thus far.

It was Sunday and Lily was coming about half four. She was going to do a barbeque and take advantage of the warm weather, not that it seemed to be going anywhere. She was surprisingly nervous, almost worried as to what Lily's reaction would be. She wasn't sure why it mattered so much, obviously it nice to have your friends on board but it wouldn't stop her with going ahead with it........... would it?
It was 4:20, Lily would be there in 10 minutes she thought. She looked in the mirror in her bedroom, she was wearing a mid thigh length skater dress which was pale blue with a pale pink flower design across it, it was light and summery. Hair blonde hair was curled gently, just loose. She tucked her hair behind her right ear and ran down stair to get the wine out of the fridge and pour it into two large glasses. The doorbell rang, she glanced around the kitchen, everything for the barbeque was ready and laid out and she ran to get the door. She had butterflies in her tummy in anticipation. Sarah opened the door,

"Hey Lily, come on in, there's wine in the kitchen". Lily laughed and gave Sarah the bottle of wine she had brought with her.

"Great minds think alike". Sarah took the bottle and hugged Lily hello.

"I'll put it in the fridge for later, I feel like this night is going to call for two bottles at least"

Sarah walked through to the kitchen, Lily following behind. "So how was your day off Lily?"

"Boring up until now, although I got to have a nice lie in. The heat here is really getting to me, I feel like I could curl up and sleep all the time"

"I know how you feel, least I'm not wearing any aging makeup this season, I think it would melt right off me in this weather" She said smiling at Lily. Lily had now made herself at home with her glass of wine sitting on one of the bar stool at the kitchen counter. Sarah went and picked up her wine, leaning against the counter adjacent to Lily and taking a sip. "I was going to do barbeque tonight since I haven't done one in ages, sound ok?"

"Yeah, sounds great to me. I can't barbeque to save my life, Hamish always used to do it, and I haven't tried since we separated, so it'll be nice. Just don't ask me to help unless you like your kebabs cremated." Lily said smirking.

Through her laughing Sarah managed to say "Barbecuing is the only kind of cooking I'm any good at. So between us we make a fine culinary pair."

We make a good pair full stop thought Lily. The two of had clicked right away when they first met years before when doing a theatre production together. They had both felt completely comfortable with each other and loved spending time together. When they came back together to work on AHS they had just slipped back into the rhythm of each other. They had relied a lot on each other for support over the last couple of seasons. Sarah particularly with all that her character, Lana, had gone through. There had been many nights just curled up on the sofa together, not necessarily talking, just seeking comfort in being held and feeling safe.

Lily was brought out of her thoughts by Sarah saying " You want to go through to the garden, I've got something I want to talk to you about".
