Fulfilling A Dream

Chapter 12

I know at the end of last chapter I said "The End" but I was reading this story last night and realised how suddenly it ended and that I even wanted it to keep going so I have decided to continue writing it. Any feedback is good and I hope you enjoy :)

It was there first night together as a family, Maizie was back and judging by Bill's reaction to them wanting to adopt her, she was here for good.

They had put Maizie to bed around 8pm, she was shattered, it had been a long and exiting day for all of them. They had tucked her in and kissed her good night and she was out. They both knew that it wasn't always going to be that easy but they were ready for the challenges thay lay ahead.

They had spent the day reading books on the back porch together and playing with the toys. Lily and Maizie ran round the garden playing some racing car game whilst Sarah made dinner. She loved watching those two interact, Lily was so loving towards her and Maizie seemed to have such admiration for Lily. Sarah could watch them together for hours, she couldn't wait to get some toys for the garden, like a swing set and slide. They could all play in the garden together. Sarah remembered having a sandpit as a child and all the fun she and her sisters had in it, pretending they were at the beach and making castles for there dolls. She wanted that for Maizie, all of it. Maybe they could have another child, a sibling for Maizie, she couldn't imagine being an only child, not having someone to share everything with, look out for each other. Sarah shook her head, now was not the time to be planning out future children, they had only just got Maizie back and that was something her and Lily would have to decide together. For now though she was happy just having Maizie back, she didn't want to push Lily too much.

Lily and Sarah were lying snuggled up together in bed, Sarah laying her head on Lily's chest listening to her steady heart beat, feeling safe and secure with Lily's arms ramped around her.
"We'll have to get stuff for her bedroom now she's here for good" Sarah said smiling up at Lily, her eyes sparking with excitement. Lily looked  down at her smiling
"I know, just imagine what she'll pick out, it will be like a pink princess palace, we may have to rain her in a little when she's picking the decor"  Lily said laughing. Then a sadness washed over her
"What if something falls through and they don't let her stay with us, we'd not only lose her but her room would be a constant reminder of what we no longer have, I don't think I can handle that Sarah. I know she needs her own things but if we lose her then there all just reminders of her, shouldn't we wait a little....." Lily said panicking, she knew how much it hurt to lose Maizie and that was when she was holding back on letting herself fall in love with her, she still had her guard up a little. This time she had her guard down and opened her heart fully to Maizie in the safety off knowing she was there's forever but now she was realising that things could go wrong at any stage, nothing was certain until they had that certificate that said Maizie Jade Paulson-Rabe.
"Lily" Sarah voice broke through her thoughts
"I know you're panicking, I'm scared of losing her too, but we can't think like that and she can't have a room that is so adult and not at all child friendly. She needs somewhere that feels like her own, where she can have her toys and books and a bed that's low enough for her to get in and out herself. I know that if we lose her again it's going to be so much harder than last time and having to clear out her stuff would be terrible but we need to do this for her and make her time with us the most homely and safe place it can be. We can't let our own emotions and worries stop us loving her fully and cause us to hold back. She needs a real Mummy and family to call her own and that's who we need to be for her" Lily just stared at Sarah unblinkingly.
"What?" said Sarah feeling slightly uncomfortable. She was worried she had upset Lily, she couldn't read her face. She just loved Maizie so much and wanted to make her life as perfect as possible. They may not be able to bring her parents back but they could show her they loved her just as much as they did and would protect her, just as they did. Lily was still staring at Sarah, then her face broke into a smile
"I love you Sarah Paulson" she said leaning forwards to kiss her on the lips, the kiss was full of love, deep and meaningful.
"I love you too, but what was that for?" She said looking puzzled.
"You're just so amazing and passionate. I love how protective you are of Maizie already, I know I'm just panicking, I just can't face losing her again" Lily said sadly
"I love her too much" Lily said blushing slightly.
"I know you do sweetheart, but lets just make the most off the time we have all together and if something happens we'll fight it as a family. She's not going anywhere, trust me" Sarah said kissing Lily, as if to seal her promise. She hoped it was one she could keep.

They snuggled up together again, tomorrow was just the beginning of there new life as a family. Neither of them could wait to see the wonder in Maizie's eyes when they took her to pick out her own furniture and some new books and toys.

Sarah and Lily were both awoken suddenly to the sound of crying coming for Maizie's room, they got up and ran to her room. They found here sitting on the edge of the bed behind the toddler bed side that Sarah had put up incase she rolled to close to the edge to stop here falling out. Seeing Sarah and Lily, Maizie's sobs subsided slightly, she raised her arms up to Sarah to be picked up. She really liked them both but Sarah reminded her of her Mummy, she smelled the same and it made her feel safe. Sarah picked her up hugging her close. "What happened baby girl?" Sarah said concerned turning to look at Lily for help who was gently running her fingers through Maizie's hair in an attempt to calm her. Maizie took a shuddering breath,
"Bad dream and I stuck in bed, I wanted a cuddle" she said sniffing and wrapping her arms tightly around Sarah's neck. "Do you want to tell me and Lily what happened?" Sarah said as she kissed the top of Maizie's head, leaning back on Lily for warmth. "Mummy and Daddy left me home alone, I got scared"
"Oh baby, your safe now, it was just a dream and Sarah and I will keep you safe" Lily said turning Sarah so Maizie was sandwiched between them and she could cuddle them both at the same time. Lily looked at Sarah and mouthed
"Take her back to our bed?" Sarah nodded and followed Lily through to there room. She lay Maizie, who was now beginning to fall back to sleep, in the middle of there bed. That way she would be safely between them and they could keep an eye on her. They got into bed both putting an arm around her to comfort themselves more than anything and fell back to sleep, there daughter between them.
