I yawn, stretching out my arms and hitting the headboard. “Ow.” I’m used to the couch, and I forgot I wasn’t there. I look down at my lap, seeing Ashley perched there, still asleep. She has the hem of my shirt balled up in both hands. I shift slightly, trying to get comfortable, and she sighs heavily. Her lips turn up in a slight half smile, and she pulls my shirt even closer to her. It’s too tight now with her pulling at it, so I slip it off carefully. She keeps pulling, hugging the cloth and curling up, not touching me anymore.

She looks so peaceful and perfect that I decide to surprise her when she wakes up. I slip out of the bed, silently opening the door and creeping downstairs. I hope Dan isn’t up yet. He’ll see me shirtless and jump to conclusions. I hear the TV from the bottom of the stairs, and pray that I don’t fall like I know I will. I’ll just run through the living room, throw on a shirt, and-*CREAK*

“Morning N-Oh. It’s you.” Dan looks at me, a smirk appearing on his face. He opens his mouth to speak, but I cut him off.

“Shut up.” I cross the room and retrieve a fresh shirt, pulling it over my head quickly. Wanna help me make some breakfast?

“Nor particularly.”

“I’ll let you flip the pancakes.” When I offer that to Dan, he jumps off the couch.

“Morning.”  Face still buried in my shirt, Ashley’s eyes flutter open. I kiss her softly on the nose and she stretches, smiling at me.

“What’s that smell?”

“Come downstairs and see for yourself.” I press my lips to hers quickly and walk back into the kitchen to help Dan set the table. “Dan, you did a really good job!” He gives me a harsh look, obviously noticing the sarcasm in my voice. “Just because I always did it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t learn.” I walk over to the table, fixing Dan’s mess. As I fix the last fork, Ashley grabs me around the waist, pulling me close.

“You’re so nice, Phil. And-uh-I put your shirt back in your bag. Kinda figured you’d want it back. Sorry.”

“Get lucky last night, Phil?” Ashley hits Natalie for the comment, redder than a beet.

“Fuck you Natalie!” Ashley screams as a smirk crosses Natalie’s face.

“Not me.” Slyly, she kisses Dan on the cheek and slides into a chair at the table. Ashley slides into one, too. “Ow!” The smile on Ashley’s face lets me know that she kicked Natalie under the table.

“Help me, Dan.” Dan slides into the chair next to Natalie, abandoning me. I start to take the piles of food over to the table. “British pancakes, eggs, and bacon. I made them just for you, Ash. You look really cute when you sleep.”

“Yeah, sure. Sleep,” Dan mutters under his breath. Ignoring him, I continue bringing food over and sit down, sighing. “Thanks, Philly.” I shoot him a look, and he smiles, taking a heaping pile of pancakes.

~Later~

Breakfast was surprisingly pleasant, even with all the jokes. I stand up, clearing the table, and Ashley lays back in her chair. “I’m so full. That was great, Phil.”

Dan, holding two dirty plates, walks up to me and whispers in my ear, “That’s what she said last night.” I hit him, but he dodges the blow.

“Damn you, Dan.” I continue to clear off the table, and start on the dishes. “Wanna help me, Ash?” She looks at me, her face saying ‘Do I have to?’ “I don’t think I can handle THEM anymore.” Reluctantly, she comes over to help me and the other couple goes back upstairs. “Thank you.”

We clean the dishes in silence, but eventually Ashley breaks the tension. “You know, Phil...” She sighs. “Nevermind.”

“No...what?” I turn off the water for a minute, staring into her sad, child-like eyes.

“It’s stupid. We haven’t-I shouldn’t have said anything.” I turn on the water again, and we keep washing. What could she have possibly-oh.

I kiss her lips softly. “Soon.” She shows off her eyes again. “I promise.”
