“Dan!” I poke my friend in the shoulder once more. “Wake up!” He’s been sleeping since we left, probably trying to avoid the fact that I dragged him to America with me. He didn’t want to move. And although I can’t blame him, I wish he would pretend. As I poke him again, he groans and shoves his pillow in my face.

“Shut up Phil.”

“But we’re about to land!” I start to shake his arm, and he sits up, glaring at me. “You weren’t asleep at all, were you?” I yank the headphones out of his ears, letting them fall into his lap.

“Fine, Phil. But why do you care so much about coming to America? You’ve never wanted to live here before!” I don’t answer him. “Ugh.”

~An hour later~

“This is it, Dan. This is where we can stay until we find a place to live.” The taxi drives away, and we are left in front of a small white house. “Come on!” Leaving Dan to handle all the bags, I bound up the sidewalk to the front door and ring the bell. A girl peeks out of the curtains, and I can hear muffled yelling. A few seconds later, Ashley opens the door, jumping on me in a hug. I squeeze back tight, burying my face in her hair. we’ve gotten really close since I went back home.

“I can’t believe you’re actually here!” She lets go, grabbing my hand and pulling me inside. Her friend goes outside, probably to help Dan with the bags. Woops. I was right, because a few seconds later the two of them flop a whole pile of luggage on the floor.

“Sorry Dan,” I apologize. He responds with a snort.

“Um, Natalie? Could you help him to his room?” Ashley asks. “I’m gonna go help Phil with the rest of the bags.” Natalie grabs a suitcase and leads Dan upstairs, while Ashley leads me back outside. Dan obviously kicked the bags, as they are laying all over the yard. “You really pissed him off, huh?”

“That means made him angry, right?” She nods. “I guess so. But he really didn’t want to come here in the first place. I kind of dragged him along. I wanted to be able-nevermind.” I’ve said too much, and can feel the blood rushing to my face. “Could you grab those bags over there? I think I can handle the rest.”

Ashley grabs the bags and leads me back inside. “I figured you didn’t want to share a room with Dan, so you can sleep in mine on the floor or something, or there’s a pull-out couch down here. You can have my room all to yourself even if you’d like.” She pauses. “I wish there was another extra room.”

“I can sleep downstairs. I don’t want it to be awkward.” My mind drifts off to cuddling with Ashley, and I can feel myself turn red again. “I’ll be fine down here.”

“I’ll let you settle in then.” She walks upstairs to her room and I flop on the couch. All the excitement has really tired me out...

I wake up to the warmth of breath in my face. Slowly opening my eyes, Dan’s face comes into view, and I jump. “Morning, sunshine.”

“Dan!” I scream. Sitting up, I can hear Natalie laughing from the other room. Dan walks away snickering, and I yawn. I can smell Chinese, and my stomach starts to growl. I haven’t eaten anything all day. Ashley walks down the stairs, blushing at the sight of me. “What?” I look down, seeing that my shirt is pulled up to my ribs. Nervously pulling it back down, my face matches her. I stand up and walk over to her.

“I don’t even like Chinese food, so you better appreciate this. I got it for you guys.”

“You don’t like Chinese!?” I gasp in feigned shock. “That’s it! I’m breaking up with you!”

“So that means we were dating?” She smiles at me.

“Aw you’re way too cute to stay mad at. I guess I’ll take you back.”

“Phillip Michael Lester, did you just call me your girlfriend?” I can’t help but grin at her. “Well I accept.” She’s giving me that look again, and I reach down swiftly, giving her a small peck on the lips. After a brief look of shock, she whispers, “I should order Chinese more often.”
