I woke up in Tyson's arms.
I turned around to look at him, he looked so tired and his brows were creased with worry.
Even when he was asleep, he was still worried about me.
I quietly got out of bed and made my way to the wardrobe to get some clothes and then headed to the bathroom to take a shower and brush my teeth.
In ten minutes I was done, I quickly got dressed and also dresses my wound.
When I returned to the room, Tyson was gone.
I guess he didn't want to invade my privacy.
I flopped on the bed and tries not to think about the nightmare.
I wondered if my mom was alright...she had to be alright.
She couldn't die, no.
She had a life to think about, a daughter to think about.
She couldn't leave me alone, not like the way dad left.
Four years ago, my mom and dad decided that their marriage wasn't going to work, so they got a divorce.
I was only sixteen then.
I begged them to reconsider the divorce, that never worked out.
Then two months after the divorce,my father left the country to go and live in France.
He said he would give me money to buy a ticket to come and visit him...I declined.
Luckily they didn't fight for custody, or else I would have to travel to two countries.
He was still my father, but that daughter - father bond was broken.
He did call occasionally to ask how I was, or if mom was managing.
He never forgot to wish me a happy birthday every single year.
Secretly I wished my parents would stop acting like teenagers and just make up.
That's not how it worked in the real world...sad but true.
I was broken by the divorce, but Tyson kind of healed me.
He was so caring and kind, and totally crazy about me.
When my mom first met Tyson, she wasn't thrilled with the idea of me dating someone so much older than me...talk about over exaggeration, Tyson was only four years older than me.
I don't know what she was freaking about.
I guess mom's will never except any boys their daughters bought home.
Dads are by far the worst, if you bring your boyfriend home, they would make things awkward for everyone.
I guess Tyson was lucky he never met my dad.
Soft knocking broke my chain of thoughts.
"Who is it?" I called.
"It's me." Tyson said coming in with a tray full of food,"I bought breakfast."
"I'm not hungry," I said.
He set the tray on the bed and sat down,"You have to eat to get your energy back."
"I don't want to...I'm afraid I may not keep the food down," I said leaning against the headboard.
"Come on C," he said looking at me,"Eat then you can throw up afterwards."
"You are not helping," I groaned,"Maybe I'll eat later."
"I don't believe you," he said.
I waved away his comment and popped a piece of an apple into my mouth. I waited for the nausea to come, it didn't.
I decided to eat the fruit salad,if I threw up, I was going to blame him.
He watched me eat and I glared at him,"Stop starring at me. You're making me feel weird."
He laughed and kept on looking at me, I finished the rest of the salad and was grateful for not throwing up.
"See, you didn't throw up," he said.
"Whatever, thanks for the breakfast by the way," I said.
"No problem...do you want to talk about what happened last night?" he asked holding me captive with his eyes.
I sighed loudly and hugged my knees.
Did I want to talk about it...?
No.
"No, but let's talk about how you knew I was in trouble," I said,"And how you knew where the gang would take me."
"Well...I kind of tracked you," he said,"Good thing too. I offered to help you out with Bob, you said no...he almost killed you Courts. If you weren't so damn stubborn -"
"Hold up," I snapped,"You have no right to say that. I did what I had to do, why can't anyone see that? Bob wanted my mom dead, so I did what came to mind, I saved my mom's life."
"I'm not saying you didn't," he began,"But you should have called the cops. Jail is not a place you want to go to, believe me."
I sighed and ran my hand through my hair,"I know, okay? I didn't know what else to do."
"I should have been there for you, I shouldn't have left the country," he said,"You needed me and I wasn't there for you."
I went to sit down next to him, I took his face in my hands,"It's not your fault. I don't expect you to put your life on the hold for me."
He pulled me in for a hug and it dawned on me that I missed him so much.
Yes...I did break up with him, but that didn't mean I loved him any less.
I tightened my arms around him and breathed him in.
He released me and caressed my face.
"I need to see my mom," I said,"Help me to sneak into the hospital, I just need to see if she is okay."
"Sure," he said.
Hours later we had arrived at the hospital, I adjusted my cap one last time before I got out of the car.
"The cops know at some time you'll come to see your parents, so they're ready for you." Tyson said getting out of the car, "They'll probably not recognise you with your hair and clothes. Just act normal, I'll be right behind you."
I took a deep breath and walked into the hospital.
"She's in room 14." Tyson said.
I made my way to her room without drawing attention to myself.
I opened the door and closed it quietly behind me.
I took one look at her and the tears rolled down.
She was in a coma.
She had a all sorts of needles coming out of her, almost her entire body was covered in bandages.
Nobody wanted to see their mother like that.
I walked to the bed and took her hand onto my own,"I am so sorry mom...please wake up and we'll deal with this together, please."
How did it get to this?
Tyson came in looking worried,"The doctor is coming. If he finds you here..."
I looked at my mom one last time and left.
Tyson and I used a different route to get out of the hospital.
She had to make it...
