Imagine #110 Damon

Damon left you for Elena. To retaliate, you leave for New Orleans with Klaus, who fakes your death back at Mystic Falls.

"I'm so sorry Y/N", Damon said, his apologetic voice making you look away.

" It's okay", you shrugged.

"No. I feel awful", he told you softly.

" I want you to be happy. It's all I've ever wanted. Elena makes you happy. It's okay. So be happy", you said, smiling as a tear fell down your cheek.

"I will always love you", Damon said, as he kissed your cheek.

Then why did he rip your heart from your chest?

" I'm sorry love", Klaus said softly.

"I wish everyone would stop saying sorry!", you snapped bitterly. Then you sighed, rubbing your temple. " I'm sorry ".

" No, I like this whole feisty thing. It's the Y/N I know and love. My bitchy best friend", he grinned, causing you to smile tiredly. "Come back to New Orleans with me. You can refresh. I think it would be good for you", he said gently.

" I do too", you whispered, as you hugged him. You needed to get away, that you knew. "I don't know how to tell Care. And Stef. I'm just, I'm so embarrassed", you said, blinking back tears as you scoffed at yourself.

" I'll handle it", Klaus told you softly, as he cupped your face in his hands.

"Oh my god. Oh god. No, no, no", Caroline said, clutching her stomach as she knelt to the ground, tears falling down her cheeks in grief. You were like a sister to her.

" Y/N ended her life soon after she found out about Damon. It was too much. I am sorry", he told Caroline gently, as he wiped her tears with his thumb.

Klaus had decided to fake your death, totally unbeknownst to you. He was so angry about what Damon had done to you, that it seemed like the best course of action. But seeing how distraught Caroline was, it made him feel so guilty. But he didn't back out. He kissed Caroline's forehead.

"I'm sorry", he repeated in a whisper.

1 year later.

"I think I'm gonna go back to Mystic Falls", you said to Klaus, smiling as you lifted Hope into your arms.

" What?", Klaus asked, his voice alarmed.

"I think I'm ready. I miss Care. And Stef. You've gone way beyond the best friend call of duty. I needed the time away. Thank you for giving it to me", you smiled, kissing his cheek. He sighed heavily.

" I may have done something bad", he muttered.

"Oh God? What did you do?"

"Well..."

"You faked my death?!", you exclaimed, your cheeks puce with fury.

" I thought I was doing the right thing!", he said defensively.

"You absolute idiot!", you said, hitting him roughly with every syllable.

You knocked on Caroline's door, taking a nervous deep breath. Caroline opened the door. Her mouth hung open and her face grew ashen. A tear fell down her cheek.

" I'm alive!", you said softly, attempting to sound light. You looked at her nervously. Until she laughed, and looked so happy that she was glowing.

"Oh my god!", she said, hugging you tightly. " Stefan!", she shouted.

Stefan walked out, looking at you with disbelief. He joined the hug, turning it into a group one.

"I know I have some explaining to do..."

"What a dick! This year has been so hard without you", Stefan said, shaking his head in exhaustion.

" We were heartbroken ", Care agreed, squeezing your hand as she smiled tearily.

" I missed you guys so much", you said gently.

Your smile faded as a figure ran into the room. You stood up as you faced Damon.

"You're alive", he whispered, two tears slipping evenly down his cheek.

" I'm alive", you repeated softly.

"I broke it off with Elena the day you left. A huge part of me died the day that you did", he said, his hand on his chest.

" I'm sorry you went through that. But it doesn't change us. We can't be together again Damon. I'm finally at a place where it doesn't hurt to think about how I was second best. But I want to be your friend. If...if you want", you said gently.

Damon looked at you softly. He didn't care if he couldn't kiss you. He just knew he needed you.

"I want".
