Imagine #112 Klaus

You are unable to cope with your child's death.

"You look divine darling", Kol said, bowing teasingly. You grinned as you bowed back.

" This old thing?", you asked, flattered as you smoothed out your dress.

"Of course. Why isn't your husband telling you this himself?", Kol asked curiously.

" He's dancing with Y/D/N. The real love of his life", you smiled, as you thought of your five year old daughter, the brightest spark in any of your lives.

"Oh, that little beauty is the love of all of our lives, I am sure", he smiled fondly.

" You mean I'm not yours?", you asked, feigning disappoinment. He grinned, opening his mouth to reply wittily.

He was cut off as you heard Klaus scream. Your blood felt like ice as you heard the noise. It wasn't a tempered roar. It was a sound of utter anguish, unlike one you had ever heard before. Like his heart had literally been shredded beyond repair. Even though you didn't know what was going on, you knew. You knew.

Kol ran towards the sound, which was downstairs, beyond your range of sight. And you couldn't tune in your hearing. You didn't want to. In fact, your head became foggy. It was like time had stopped still. It was a feeling beyond description.

You walked slowly downstairs, to the room where everyone should have been dancing. Everyone was spaced away but gathered around Klaus, Elijah, Freya and Kol. You stood quietly in the corner, out of eyes way. But you could see everything.

Freya crying, Elijah with his head in his hands, Kol on the floor. And what you next saw was something that no amount of time could ever prepare you for, nor heal you. You knew as you saw it that it would be forever etched into your brain.  

You saw Klaus cradling your tiny daughter in his arms, his face a reflection of your internal feelings. Your beautiful, kind daughter. Who was now gazing lifelessly at you, unbeknownst to anyone else at the scene. You looked into her lifeless eyes, eyes that just earlier today had been sparkling mischievously at you. And as you looked at her eyes, a part of you died. Maybe the biggest part.

You were unsure of what had happened to her. You couldn't even think of that. You should have been over there, holding your daughter, screaming at her for leaving you, because you needed her. She was your person.

You should have been over there. You should not have been in the corner, watching motionlessly. You weren't even crying, even though many strangers in the room were. It was like something wasn't working. You were numb.     

Finally, Klaus noticed you weren't there. He looked around the room, taking distraught deep breaths. He finally found you, hiding in the corner, your hands on your stomach, your face frozen by overwhelming shock.

He looked into your eyes, but it was as if you didn't see him. Didn't see anyone. It was like you weren't even there. He kissed Y/D/N's forehead, tears trickling down his cheek. He handed her, with extreme gentleness, as though she was a broken doll, capable of repair, to Kol, who held her just as gently.

He then stood up, amazed at his legs resilience. Because he thought he would crumple right down to the floor again. But he walked over to you.

Again, it was like he wasn't even standing in front of you. You couldn't see anyone. All you were thinking of was memories. And why. Why? How could it come to this?

Klaus cupped your face in his hands, sniffing his own tears. Yours were non existent, and that scared him.

"Y/N, baby, talk to me", he whispered. You stared glossily ahead, almost in a trance. Why?
" I need you in this with me Y/N. I literally can't get through this without you", he said, his eyes tearing up even more. You stared ahead. Why her?

Klaus leaned down, to rest his head on your shoulder as he sobbed. You didn't even blink, and you hated yourself for it. You hated everything. You really were totally unsure of how, or if you were going to get through this. You were terrified. Because you honestly didn't think you could. And that scared the hell out of you.
