Tamara's POV
Monday morning as I was getting ready for school. I replayed the lie I was going to tell Tanner so much in my head that almost forgot the reason why I looked beat up. Hearing the familiar hum of his truck's engine outside, I grabbed my bags and after I took a deep breath I stepped outside. It was still cold with it still being winter. I hugged my jacket around myself and jogged to the passenger side before climbing in.
"Good morning," Tanner said trying to look at my face.
"Morning." I glanced at him while ignoring the sharp intake of breath Tanner took when he got a glimpse of my face.
"Tamara, what happened to your face?"
"I tripped." I laughed.
"Dang, you look like you've been in a fight."
I froze.
When he didn't say anything else, I relaxed.
Tanner's POV
Something told me that what Tamara was telling me wasn't true. There was no way someone could trip and fall and cause that much damage to themself. But if I tried to draw an explanation as to what really happened, nothing made any sense. Maybe she did trip. Tamara mentioned she didn't have good coordination in her feet. Maybe it was just me being paranoid. I decided to let it go. If something really happened and Tamara wanted me to know, she would tell me.
