My eyes were locked on my dad who was unaware of what was going on around him. He was lost in keenly kissing the woman who obviously wasn't my mom. Fuck, he was cheating on my mother and it seemed like he didn't even care about how much it was gonna hurt her when she found out.
My suspicions from that right were right. I should have known that, but how was I supposed to believe that my dad, the guy who loved his family so much, would do something like this? I was so damn angry and hurt at the same time. I wanted to scream, to run to him and wrench him away from that woman but I forced myself to hold back.
I drove away fast, not wanting to look at that horrible scene any longer. I wanted to forget that whole thing, hoping that it would make everything go back to the way it was before, but knowing at the same time that it wouldn't.
Parking my car near Andy's house, I got out and slammed the car door behind me. Kayla got out as well, and I locked it. I made my way towards the house with Kayla following close behind me, silent.
When we entered, the party was at its peak. Loud music blasted from the speakers and almost everyone was dancing. Others were playing beer pong or making out while some were drinking and there were some people passed out on the couch. Basically, it was the typical high school party.
My mind was replaying the image of my dad kissing that woman, cheating on my mom and it made my blood boil. In my anger, I had almost forgotten that I had brought Kayla with me. I looked back at her and saw that she was looking around, feeling unfamiliar to the surroundings. She had a guarded expression and she was visibly uncomfortable.
Feeling guilty, I took a step back and grabbed her hand, intertwining our fingers together. He hand was small and warm. It felt comfortable and I was at ease.
"Zach, come over here." Liam called out, waving at me from the back of the room. They all greeted me before Liam handed drinks to Kayla and me. She declined but I took the cup and drank the beer in one gulp. I grabbed another cup and drank it while listening to my friends' conversations.
"How is it here? Do you like this town?" Melissa asked Kayla with a smile.
"Yeah, it's really nice. I really do like it here." She answered, smiling back.
I drank two more cups before taking a bottle of vodka and leaning against the counter, lost in my thoughts. I was on my second bottle when Liam took it from me.
"Dude, what the hell? You haven't been here for more than 30 minutes, but you've downed two bottles? What's going on?" Liam asked, frowning.
"It's nothing. I'm not that drunk. I can handle this." I slurred.
"I know you. You aren't the type to drink your ass off unless something happened. What's going on with you?" He pressed on.
"Drop it, Liam. I don't wanna talk about it, okay?" I said loudly and lurched forward to grab the bottle from him.
"Seriously, tell me what's going on. I'm worried about you." Liam questioned again in a concerned manner.
"Fuck off and leave me alone." I snapped at him and turned around to get out of there. I took another beer with me and drank. I wanted to feel numb and get rid of the pain and anger building up inside me.
"I'm gonna go after him." I heard Kayla say.
I walked to the backyard and sat on the porch. I felt someone's presence behind me and I knew it was none other than Kayla. She sat next to me and the both of us stayed silent, each lost in our own thoughts. I felt relieved that Kayla wasn't forcing me to talk, but I wanted to tell her how I felt about it. I didn't know why I felt like telling her everything right now. Maybe it was the effect of the alcohol in my body.
