The school grounds were decorated with lights and there were different booths being prepared by the students.
"Hey, when is the other bunch of kids coming?" Liam asked.
"They’d be coming soon, I guess." Melissa replied, taking the banner out of the box that they brought for the decorations.
"There are a lot of people participating in the event right? I never expected almost the whole school to come and help," I said, looking at the crowds in different areas of the huge field.
"I can say with absolute assurance that half of them are here because of detention." Zach chuckled.
The whole field had different booths set up. Zach and his friends were putting up a stall for games related to science.Melissa and I together had planned to set up a stall to show different simple chemical reactions and easy life hacks people can do in daily life.
Other different stalls were set up for food and information too.
I pulled my phone out when it started to ring. My eyes lit up when I saw the caller ID.
"Hey, what's up?" I asked as soon I picked up the call.
"Foxie, I've missed you so much." Nico answered from the other end of the line
"I’ve missed you too," I replied, my memories jogging back to the past, to the times we hung out all the time.
"Well, I have some good news and bad news. I called to tell you that I'm coming today. I got the chance to come to the science fair. But they are coming too." He whispered the last part in a grave voice.
My mood did a sudden 180 degree. I had gotten so excited about Nico’s arrival and then the bad news stumped me. I saw Zach giving me a sideways look and I knew he had noticed that my mood changed."Well, I'm still happy that you are coming." I softly replied.
" Foxie, are you gonna be okay?" Nico asked worriedly. Nico was constantly worrying about me. He would always be by my side at school and was reluctant to leave when we had different classes.
"Yeah, I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about me. I'm not alone anymore. Oh, I also have something huge to tell you." I forced a smile on my face. I hadn't told Nico about dating Zach. I knew he would be happy for me.
"I’ll see you in a few hours then. Bye, foxie." I heard the smile in his voice.
I sighed, putting my phone back in my pocket and went back to working.
"What was all that about?" Melissa asked curiously.
"Nico is joining the science fair. He called to tell me that he’s coming," I told her with a smile.
"Oh, that's great."
I nodded and we both got busy setting up the place.
******After a few hours, we all sat on a nearby bench to get some rest and quench our thirst before the event officially started. The place looked astounding with all the decorations and lights all over the place. We had all finished preparing our respective booths and what's remaining was some last minute touch ups to be ready for the fair.
