I looked at my phone and huffed in annoyance as I laid back on Liam's bed. I was hoping for it to ring and hear Kayla's voice. I wanted her to call and tell me that everything was fine and to go back to normal. I looked at it again and groaned.
"Dude, just call her already. If you're that concerned just call her and resolve it," Liam said as he stared at me.
"It's not that easy," I simply said.
"Wow, I didn't know it was that hard to dial a freaking number." He rolled his eyes.
I glared at him and turned the other way, looking at my phone again.
"She might be trying to find a solution to this and do her part while you're just moping in my room spreading negativity," Liam said, spreading his arms and waving them like a windmill, doing his so called 'cleansing the aura' action.
"I'm just scared, maybe I reacted to the situation in the wrong way." I got up from the bed and sat at the edge.
"Either way, it has happened. You can't take it back, so why don't you just work on making things better? You're not the only one in the relationship. Avoiding the problem and Kayla isn't the answer man. Talk to her, compromise if you guys have to and make it work out. If you can't do that, don't stay in the relationship and end up hurting her." Liam advised in his guru mode. He had his hand held up like a freaking idiot which made me smile. He could make serious things funny but in the end he would be right.
I gave a nod, grabbing my phone and dialed Kayla's number. She picked up on the first ring.
"Hey, uh-"
"Zach, I was just about to call you," she said as soon as she picked up.
"Oh, I'm glad I called you then." A small smile spread on my face just by hearing her voice. Her soft, soothing voice had a calming effect on me.
"So, I talked to Nico about it," she said softly.
"What did he say?" I asked grimly.
"Well, you were right."
There was a moment of silence before she started talking again.
"I'm sorry for what I said that day. But I won't apologize for Nico having feelings for me. It could happen to anyone. And anyway, he's still my best friend. You have to accept the fact that no matter what happens he's always gonna be a part of my life. But he said he will try to get over me because he truly is happy for the both of us."
"I know Kayla. And I'm sorry too. I just hated that he had feelings for you and I thought he might confess to you. I was stupid and childish. And jealous, I guess," I admitted.
"Zach, you don't have to worry about that. Don't you trust me? I'm with you. I can't see anyone else except you." She spoke with such love that I felt so stupid about the fight we had.
"I do. It's just insecurities I guess. Will you forgive me?" I answered.
"Of course, Zach." I could hear the smile in her voice.
We both stayed on the phone for about an hour talking about random stuff and I was in a bliss that we made up. After I got off the phone, Liam fired questions about the call. I forgot that he was listening to me talking to her the whole time. He could be such a creep at times.
After telling Liam everything, I went back home and slumped on my bed. My mom came back with Lucy and the house livened up again because of that ball of sunshine whom I love so dearly.
I had started playing with my Rubik's cube when someone knocked on my door.
"Come in"
My mom entered the room with a smile on her face. She looked tired but seemed very content with everything.
"Hey Mom, what's up?" I asked as I sat on the bed with my legs crossed.
"I just wanted to talk to you. Can't I have a talk with my son?" My mom said, trying to be stern and then laughed.
She sat on my bed, facing me and took my hand in hers.
"Zach, it's over. I'm divorced." Her voice was timid and I knew she was having a hard time voicing it.
"Mom, it's gonna be okay. I'm here for you. And so is Lucy. You did well." I moved forward and wrapped my arms around her.
I couldn't be more proud of my mom. She was so amazing that with everything going downhill she was still standing up and trying her best to make it better.
"I don't know if I did the right thing. But it feels good know that everything is over. I think one way or another I felt trapped due to your dad's secret affair." She moved away and looked at me. "Now I can focus more on my carrier and my children."
"Mom, don't turn into a workaholic. You never know, you might meet an amazing guy later," I said smiling at her.
"At this age? I don't think so." She huffed out.
"Well you never know." I shrugged.
She nodded and gave me a pat on my head before heading out of my room, closing the door behind her.
I laid back on my bed and sighed in relief that everything was turning out okay. We all stumbled into a bad patch but then we climbed up to the good part. I guess the saying is true about life having ups and downs. It is possible that we might again come across a rough part in our lives but as we move forward we'd also have the fun moments. It's all there in life. The good and the bad.
I took my phone and texted Kayla and Liam, updating them about my mom. They all wished her well and were hoping for her to find someone good and I couldn't agree more because she deserved it. I fell into a deep slumber with thoughts of everyone I love and a smile on my face
