Zachery Williams
On Monday morning at school, I was just walking through the school gate when someone hugged me from behind. I turned around to see Kayla grinning widely up at me.
"Morning," I smiled back. "What's got you so happy today?"
"I don't know; I guess everything is becoming normal in my life for once. Things are finally falling into place with my family and I have great friends and an awesome boyfriend. I feel like I couldn't be happier." She took my arm and we made our way towards the lockers.
"You said you'd give me all the details when we meet, so how did it go?" I asked.
She started explaining everything to me while we waited by the lockers for the bell to ring.
"I still haven't talked to my dad. But no matter how things go with him when I finally do talk to him, I know I can count on the others. That much is enough for me. I mean I'm not expecting everything to suddenly become perfect. After everything that I've been through, I'm thankful that things are turning out as good as they are," she said as the bell rang.
"I'm glad that things are finally working out for you. God knows you deserve it," I said with a light kiss on her forehead.
As we started making our way to class, Liam and Melissa fell into step with us and we walked into Biology together.
"Okay everyone, I have something to announce," the biology teacher said as he entered the class. "We're having a science fair this weekend. And you all have to prepare something for the fair, because the whole town is invited since it's also going to be a fundraising event." Multiple groans were heard throughout the class. "I know you guys have better plans for the weekend, but this is important. And it's not going to be as bad as you think, because another group of students are coming from a school in New York to take part in this. So this will be an opportunity for you to meet new people too," he smiled. "So, shall we get started with the lesson?"

"Man, this thing is going to suck. And I had plans for the weekend too," Liam kept complaining as we headed out of school.
"It can't be that bad, I mean we will be doing this together right?" Melissa replied clutching on his arm.
"Yeah Liam, cheer up." Kayla agreed with Melissa.
We drove to a small diner near the school to get something to eat. I stepped out of my car, Kayla following behind me we headed into the diner.
When we made our way across the diner, I heard someone call out my name. Turning around, I saw my dad waving at me with a small smile on his face.
"You guys go ahead and get us a table." I told Liam and grabbed Kayla's hand.
"Zach, how are you?" my dad asked giving me a small hug.
"I'm okay, dad. How are you?" I replied as we pulled away.
"I'm pretty good. How is your mom holding up? What about Lucy? I know I should call you guys and see how everyone is. But I have been busy with getting a new apartment and settling down." He admitted awkwardly ruffling his hair.
"It's okay dad, mom is holding up well. Lucy is also great. I understand why you couldn't call us. I'm sure everything would be fine soon. You don't have to worry about us." I answered holding on Kayla's hand and squeezing it softly.
I was sure Kayla understood how hard it was for me to stand in front of my dad and assure him that everything was all right. She knew it was a huge toll on me when he left, but her encouragements were shown when she squeezed my hand back in a comforting manner.
"So, who is this girl?" My dad questioned looking at Kayla.
"This is my girlfriend, Kayla." I introduced her as I wrapped my arm around her.
"It's nice to meet you Mr. Williams." Kayla held out her hand and said politely.
"You too, Kayla, I'm glad Zach has you." He smiled and shook her hand.
"Well, dad we gotta go. Liam and Mel are waiting for us." I told my dad.
"Yeah, well I need to head out too, Got some stuff to pick up for my studio." He grinned at us before heading out of the diner.
We both made our way to the table Liam and Melissa sat and ordered our food.
"How did it go with your dad Zach?" Melissa asked in a concerned voice.
"It was good actually. I thought it would take us some time before we could talk in a civil manner. But I guess we both wanted to get through the past and move forward in our own way. Otherwise I'm sure I would be creating a huge scene here." I professed what was on my mind.
"I'm proud of you Zach, you did really good out there." Kayla admitted and kissed my cheek lightly.
"It's cause I had you, you know? You were my strength. I have gone past this in a mature way all because of you. You are the one who guided me. Who taught me that life can be tough but there's always the hope that we can get past the hard times. Thank you for that, Kayla." I stroked her cheek and looked deep into her eyes.
We both could see that there was something deep in each other's eyes. There was a new strong feeling building up inside. It was scary but yet different and good.
"I really hate to ruin this romantic moment for you, lovebirds, but the food is here." Liam teased hitting my head.
"You are such an asshole man," I muttered
"I heard that, and I love you too sweetie." Liam responded back while popping a fry in his mouth.
"Honestly, I think they both are in a very intimate relationship," Melissa said to Kayla in a stage whisper, looking at Liam and me.
"You're right, Mel. What they have together is more romantic than what they have with us girls." Kayla agreed smiling smugly at me.
"Hey, we are bros okay? Nothing more than that," I joked.
"What are you talking about honey? We might as well tell them the truth." Liam said making kissing noises.
"Ugh. What a bromance." Mel giggled.
"You love it honey." Liam hugged Melissa and Kayla both started laughing.
We all continued talking while we ate enjoying each other's company.
