It had been a few weeks since Kayla talked to her dad. Slowly, everything had been changing for the good in our lives.
We only had our senior year left and everyone has started planning their futures. I was planning on going to college to study law like my uncle. I had been thinking about it for a long time.
After school, our gang went to the usual spot to hang out.
"So, what are you guys planning after high school?" Melissa asked us.
"Well I'm gonna go to college," Kayla beamed.
I was glad that Kayla had the same thoughts about it as me. We hadn't exactly talked about the future, but it seemed like we’d have to do it soon.
"We’re also going to college, and we're thinking of getting our own place nearby the college," Liam said hugging Melissa close.
"So are you guys gonna live together?" I asked smiling.
"Yeah we decided it was time to take our relationship to the next level, right babe?" Melissa glanced at Liam intertwining her fingers with his.
It was great seeing them together and seeing their relationship grow. I had been there when it started and I was the one who had seen all their fights and make-ups the closest. It was sweet seeing my best friend happy with his girl.
We all chatted in the cafe' and Jake also joined us.
"Hey, do you wanna go to my place today? I kinda promised Ashlin that I will introduce you to her." Kayla turned to me.
"Sure, I would love to get out of the friendzone," I teased her.
She lightly slapped on my shoulder, laughing at my teasing. I could never get tired of seeing her laugh. It was so mesmerizing, and I could totally drown in her laughter.
The cafe' was slowly getting crowded and we headed out when it started to get too packed. I drove to Kayla's house and she beamed at me. I could see that she was really excited about this. Only then did I start to get nervous about meeting her family.
We got out of the car and slowly approached the front door.
"Are you nervous?" Kayla asked, taking my hand.
I slowly nodded looking at her. She gave an assuring smile and opened the front door and led me into the house.
We walked into the sitting room and I saw Tulio and Tina watching a movie.
"So is this Zach, the one who made you go crazy?" I turned around when I heard a voice behind me.
I gave a polite smile when the girl introduced herself as Ashlin. A guy came behind her and glared at me. I figured it would be Ron since Kayla already warned me about him acting tough just to scare me. I was ushered into the kitchen and bombarded with questions. It was hard to believe that just a few months ago they treated Kayla so bad. I briefly saw her dad and he asked me a few questions and told me to take care of Kayla before going upstairs.
I enjoyed getting to know her family and it was good day. I wanted to spend some alone time with her so I asked her to go on a date with me and then spend the night at my place, to which she agreed happily.
