Adrian was just as shocked as I was. But most of all Adrian just wanted me to be safe. It was cute and I appreciated it and all, but we still needed to work this out. No one had heard from Mr Donovan or Ryan yet. People were really starting to panic, and they wondered if they'd ever see them again.
But the crossing lady had a clue about this mystery. She was arrogant, ignorant, creepy etc. but we really needed a lead right now. When we got to school, we braced ourselves for another disappearance. I stayed up almost all night wondering about the next victim.
I started to get scared when there was no Taylor or her friends there to greet me at the gates. I eventually found Adrian and everyone else hunched around him.
He had tears strewn across his face. I already knew what had happened. I could tell just from his face. And I was dreading what he would say next.
"Sky... " He said, whimpering.
"No- Don't-" I was now on the verge of tears.
"Sky... Taylor dissapeared last night."
My world spun. Even the few days I had known her had made us feel so close. I provided her with support I the times she needed it, and she had supplied me with a new place to call home.
But just as I opened my mouth to speak the bell rang, it was time for class.
"So do you still want to listen to what the crossing lady was talking about?" I asked him on the way to class.
"I'd do anything for Taylor. If it means I have a chance to ever see her again."
I put my arm around him in an attempt to comfort him. He hesitated and tensed for a second, but he soon loosened up.
"Well find them. And everything will be back to normal, you just see."
"I sure hope so" He said with a nervous laugh.
As the school day dragged on, my mind never stopped thinking about Taylor, Mr Donovan and Ryan. What if they were all together now?
What of they were hurt? What if it were or just some sort of terrible coincidence and they were all on a holiday without an explanation? That was probably the most unlikely. Doesn't hurt to hope.
But something strange happened that afternoon. Where the crossing lady usually stood, there another crossing lady was. She must have a day off. Or maybe she could just be avoiding us...
"Damn. Our crossing lady isn't here today. Do you want to go out a little, you know to ease up? It might take your mind off things" I didn't actually expect Adrian to agree.
He raised one eyebrow. "Are you sure? Don't you have homework or something?"
"Not really. But do you want to come to the town, we could go shopping."
I saw the ends of his lips curl up slightly. "Sounds great. But promise me it won't be clothes shopping.." I laughed.
"I promise. Let's be on our way then?"
