(Part 10! Woo hoo! Okay. I'm going a little off from what the books said. Here is my version of how Fiona and Hugh met. Enjoy! 😊)
Fiona sat in the field, legs crossed. She touched the grass gently and watched it grow taller and greener. She smiled to herself. Nature was the only thing keeping her going these days.
She stood up and concentrated, growing a tree sapling. Fiona sat down, exhausted and fell asleep.
Each day, Fiona would grow the tree and rest and grow and rest until the tree was at it's full height. The tree provided shade for her, and made her proud of what she could do. Fiona decided to make a garden.
She grew some flowers of all colors. Pink, blue, white, etc... After all that, she started to hum, leaning on her tree. She hummed a song she remembered from when she was a toddler.
As she continued, another him joined in with her. A bee. It landed on a flower and seemed to be humming along with her.
Fiona smiled. She had always liked bees, they helped flowers grow. Soon, a whole swarm of bees were pollinating her garden. But, there wasn't a hive near by. How could a swarm of bees come this far without a hive to stay in?
Her question was answered by a male voice close by.
"Hello!"
Fiona's breathing became rapid. The last time Fiona had seen somebody else, they tried to kill her. They chased her out of her home. She ran.
"Wait! I just want to talk!"
Hold on. That's a different accent. Her people don't speak like that. Maybe he's a traveler.
Fiona turned around to face the man. She found herself in front of a boy, no older than she. She gave a tentative smile and wave. The boy smiles back and said," Hi. My name's Hugh."
Fiona quietly said," I'm Fiona."
"Nice to meet you, Fiona. Say, what are you doing out here all by yourself?"
"My family chased me away, saying I'm a witch cause I can do things..." Fiona paused, not sure how to explain. "Out of the ordinary."
Hugh looked at her with interest. "Like what?"
Fiona concentrated on the ground and grew some more flowers. Looking back at him, she expected to see disgust on his face. Instead, there was a fondness.
Hugh smiled. "Amazing! Look what I can do,"
He motioned in the bees' direction and moved his hand to the flowers. The bees followed Hugh's movement and landed on the flowers. "You see, I can control bees and, believe it or not, they live inside me."
I was stunned, astounded. "Wow..."
Hugh chuckled. "Well, I've nowhere to go because of the war. Mind if I stay with you?"
"I only have the field. I don't have an actual house or anything."
"That's okay. I don't have a house either. We're kind of in the same boat, don't you think?"
"You don't think I'm a witch or anything?"
"No. I think you're pretty neat!"
Fiona surprised him with a hug. "Thank you." Fiona decided that she liked this boy.
They stayed at the field for a week. Growing and pollinating flowers. One day, a woman came up to them. She was dressed all in black and introduced herself as Miss Peregrine and asked if they would like to live with her. She explained about peculiarities and wights and hollows. Hugh and Fiona accepted and they went to Miss Peregrine's loop where they met Emma and all the other Peculiars.
