36- Heartbroken Jonah

Chapter 36

"Genny, hey, can you come pick me up please?" I begged into the phone. I was still sitting in the closet, too afraid to go outside.

"Yeah where are you? Is everything aight?" she asked.

"I'm at, somewhere downtown, I don't know. I'll go outside and see what street I'm at. Just please hurry," I pleaded and stood up. She agreed and I hung up the phone. I cracked the door open and peaked out, making sure Sky and Kevin were nowhere in sight.

I rushed out of the room, closing the door behind me and squeezed between tons of people towards the entrance.

"Hey Camila where'd you go?" a familiar voice asked behind me and I spun around.

"Kevin uh hey! Um have you seen Sky?" I asked quickly.

"Nah not in a while. Why? Is everything aight?" he asked softly and reached for my arm but I pulled away and looked towards the door.

"Look I gotta go, I see you later," I said and he opened his mouth to say something but I quickly ran off towards the door. I pushed it open and stumbled outside.

I took out my phone and texted Genny the street name and waited on a bench. I bounced my knee impatiently. I just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible and just lie down in my own bed in my room in my house in my own neighborhood in my own town and in less words I just don't wanna be here.

"You leaving? I could give you a ride if you want," a voice sniffed behind me. I turned around and saw Jonah. He sat down next to me on the bench with his head down but I could see tears running down his cheeks. I felt uncomfortable. Should I comfort him? Hearing him cry answered me. I wrapped my arms around he leaned his head on my shoulder and started sobbing.

"S-she told m-me she loved me," he cried and I rubbed my hand up and down his arm.

"She did love you, Jonah, but it wasn't right. You'll fall in love again," I whispered to him and he whimpered softly and I brought him towards me and wrapped my arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around my waist.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm s-so s-s-sorry," he stuttered.

"For what?" I asked in a hushed voice and he quickly pulled away and rubbed his eyes.

"Oh my g- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cry like that. Shoot, I'm sorry. Um I'm just going to go now," he said and stood up but I pulled him back down.

"Jonah you don't have to be sorry. I understand what it's like to lose someone you love. It sucks," I said and let out a shaky laugh. He looked up at me, his eyes big.

"You've lost someone before?" he asked and I nodded.

The ride home in Genny's car was quiet and awkward. Genny refused to turn the radio on because she wanted me to tell her what happened but I didn't want to tell her until we got to her house, where apparently I was sleeping over. I was nuzzled in the passenger seat with my head resting in my knees. I was staring at the stars out the window as I thought of everything that happened tonight.

Kevin kissed me.

Jonah kissed me.

Someone told Jonah about Sky and Zach and Sky thought I did it.

Sky's gonna ruin my life.

"Okay will you at least tell me why I saw you and Jonah crying and hugging each other on the bench?" Genny ask impatiently but I didn't move or make a sound. She made a frustrated noise and parked the car in her driveway.

"We're going inside, and you're gonna tell me everything aight?" I nodded and unbuckled my seatbelt and stepped out of the car onto her driveway. I looked up at her big brick house and followed her inside and up to her room.

We sat down on her and I closed my eyes imagining in my head everything that I was going to say to her.

"Kevin kissed me," I whispered so softly I was almost positive that I didn't even say it before Genny gasped.

"Woah! Dude, woah. That's amazing... why aren't you smiling?" she yelled enthusiastically and then frowned. My eyes slowly raised to meet hers.

"Jonah kissed me," I whispered again and her eyes widened.

"Um wow ok so again I don't see the problem here," she trailed off waiting for me to finish. I slowly lowered my gaze so I was staring at the wall again.

"I don't know who did it, Genny. But someone told Jonah abut Sly and Zach dating behind his back and she told me if he found out she would tell Kevin about me and convince her dad to fire my uncle because he's his boss and she told me she's going to tell him tonight but before that he kissed me and he made it pretty clear that were just friends and then Jonah was a mess and when I waiting for you on the bench he came out crying and then he kissed me and I don't know what to do," I explained in one breath and she quickly scrambled over to me and wrapped her arms around me. I cried onto her shoulder.

"It's all gucci. Everything will be okay. I'll bet you $100 that he likes you back," she said and I laughed.

"What about my uncle? This job means the world to him," I exclaimed.

"She's like 5 do you really think she's gonna get him fired?" she laughed and I sighed.

"I guess not," I said with a small smile and she grinned back. She always had a way of making me feel better.

"Aight now I have something that I have to tell you," she explained and her frown vanished and she looked at the door, making sure it wasn't open and then looked at me again. She lowered herself down so that we were sitting side by side and she bit her lip.

"It's about Daniel," she said quietly and I raised my head so I met her gaze.

"He, um, he told me that he wanted to ask you out tomorrow and he asked me for advice," she said bitterly and I shut my eyes tight. I'm ruining my best friends life, great, just add that to the list of awful things that happened tonight.

"Genny I'm so-," I apologized but she just smiled sadly at me.

"It's okay," she whispered and squeezed my hand. I squeezed back and smiled.

"So this is the life we living now? Crying over stupid guys," I laughed and she leaned back against the pillow.

I rolled over onto my side of the bed and turned off her lamp. I shut my eyes lightly and desperately waited for slew to take over me because once again, my dreams were better than reality.
