Chapter 3
~He Did What?
All night, after I had came back from Kyle's, I had sat at my keyboard, trying to come up with the music for my song. I had gotten most of the chorus covered, but that was all I had gotten to. My mind wouldn't focus on the song, as it kept wandering back to Kyle. I had only twenty five days left to get him to fall in love with me. But he also had to provide three acts to prove it, too.
So lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice it at first but when I noticed that my phone was ringing, I jumped. Quickly, I grabbed it off the seat and looked at the number. I took a breath and then answered the phone.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hey, Kaelyn," the person replied.
"Hi, Kyle."
There was silence.
"Well, I was, um, wondering if you'd like to go to the cafe with me?" he said, slowly. He was obviously nervous. "I mean, so we can work on the song?"
"Sure, I'll see you in a little bit?" I replied.
"Yeah."
When we hung up, I quickly got off the bench and ran to my closest. I grabbed a pair of jeans and a shirt and sweatshirt, then ran into the bathroom. I quickly stripped out of my clothes I had on from yesterday. I was finally becoming happy. And for me, that was different. I usually always stayed home on weekends, with no one around except sometimes my father. But now, Kyle wanted to hang out with me.
Then I caught an glimpse of myself in the mirror. My happiness dissolved almost instantly.
I was still only in my under garments when I went up to my full length mirror. My skin seemed to cling onto my bones, my stomach was sunken and you could easily count all of my ribs and most of the visible bones. I sighed and looked away. But it wasn't enough, this time. I started to cry as I thought about my life. I backed up until my back hit the wall. I turned around, so I was facing the wall. By now, I had tears cascading down my face. I clenched my fists. Before I realized it, I threw my fist against the wall.
I cringed at the sound of bones colliding against the wall, and bones cracking. I brought my other hand to my knuckles. They were bleeding and bruising, turning black and blue and red and brown. But oddly enough, I stopped crying. I looked numbly at my hand.
I went to my cupboard and grabbed a gauze. I slowly wrapped my knuckles. The bruises that had formed along my knuckles calmed me down. For some reason the pain made me feel... better.
I shook my head and continued to wrap my knuckles, faster. When I finished, I quickly brushed my hair and teeth. As I was finishing up with the hygienic stuff, my phone started ringing. I ran to grab my phone and answered it, before looking to see who it was.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hey, are you ready?" the voice asked.
"Kyle? Are you here?" I asked.
"Yeah," he said.
"Sorry, I'll be there in a few minutes. You can come on if you want, the front door is opened," I told him.
"Okay."
We hung up and I ran to finish washing up. Downstairs, I heard the door open, then close. I closed and locked the door to the bath room, in case he came upstairs to my room. I swiftly pulled my jeans on, then I heard footsteps coming up the stairs. As I heard them, I quickly pulled on my shirt and sweatshirt. I heard my door open as I quickly opened the bathroom door and entered my room. In the doorway, I saw Kyle. I smiled at him. He gave a small smile.
