Chapter 5
~What do I do?
The next morning, I woke up to throbbing pain throughout my whole body. I got up slowly and made my way into my bathroom. As soon as I closed the door, I stripped out of my clothing and hopped into the shower, turning it on. The little bullets of water felt really nice as they hit my sore, abused body. It made me want to stay in the shower forever.
When I finally decided to get out, the ache had stopped throbbing as badly as it had when I got up. The pain had now felt... normal. But I kept wondering why my body had been throbbing in pain so much.
Then I saw my reflection.
Blue's, black's and purple's were splotched all over onto my skin. It was as if little kids had come and splattered me with paint. All along my ribs and sunken stomach, were some of the worst. My shoulders were bluish-purple, my legs black-and-blue. I had a shoe print on my chest, from where he had stomped on me. My face and neck were okay like usual, since people could always see them. They only had a few light bruises on them.
Sighing, I left the bathroom and headed straight to my closet. I grabbed my black PINK yoga pants and my too-big sweatshirt. After I had finished getting dressed, I went back into my bathroom and brushed my teeth and put my hair up in a ponytail. Then I grabbed my school bag and ran down the stairs.
I was hoping that my father wasn't awake yet, so I could leave without seeing him. But sadly enough, when I got downstairs, he was sitting in his usual spot, reading the paper. Thankfully, he didn't seem to notice my presence.
I headed towards the door as quietly as I could, hoping my father wouldn't notice me. I had reached the door and let out a big breath, I didn't know I was holding. I turned the door knob slowly. When I had opened it a little ways, a hand came from behind me and slammed the door shut.
Before I could comprehend what had happened, I was spun around and came face to face with the man I was forced to call my father. There was no emotion in his eyes or in his expression. That scared me more.
"Now, Kaelyn, you cannot tell anyone about our little disagreement yesterday," he said, with a sugary-sweet tone. He only ever used that tone when he was trying to not yell at me and to give me an order. And whenever he gave an order, I knew not to break it, because whatever happened last night, would be like dust to a canyon.
I nodded apprehensively, making him grin, evilly. I tried to shrink myself down, closer to the door, hoping to just disappear. He laughed. Finally, after what seemed like forever, he took his hand off of the door and I was able to slip through it.
I started to run. Away from the place I was forced to call my home. I hated living there but I had no other known family. I was trapped in the little town a few miles away from Minneapolis.
Truthfully, I loved the little town, it's the people here that I don't like.
When I got to school, people were already piling in through the doors. This was usually a rare sight to see, as I was always late or early. I sighed, I was on time. I hated this. I pushed my way through the crowd of people and ran to my locker, quickly. Around me, I heard people whispering. They were looking at me.
I became a little self conscious. I finally made it to my locker and quickly opened it and grabbed what I needed. Slamming it shut, I started to run to my English class.
I became more aware of the whispering voices around me. People were talking about me. But why? What did I do? I heard them whisper many different names. Calling me anything that they could think of. I just simply shook my head and ran down the halls.
