Chapter 15
~A Good Day
Fifteen days have past, meaning I have only about thirteen days left. After everything that has been happening lately, the days seem to go by so quickly, and I don't know if everything is going to turn out alright. I mean, I was really hoping it would.
I was woken up by light seeping in through the curtains that covered my window. Slowly, I started to open my eyes against my will, before deciding to get up. After I sat up, I grabbed my phone from the night stand and looked at the time.
It was only six twenty.
I was about to hopefully fall back asleep, as I didn't have school today, but just as soon as I thought about that, I remembered my father. Shaking the thought of sleep out of my head, I got up from my bed and quickly grabbed some clothing and started to change. I put on a pair of blue skinny jeans and a long sleeve shirt. I went into the bathroom and quickly brushed my hair into a ponytail.
It was now about six forty five. Sighing, I slowly opened my door and headed down the stairs. At first, I was comprehensive about making breakfast yet, but when I heard the light noise of the shower in my father's bathroom running, I had made a dash to the kitchen.
Seeing as I was a terrible chef, with the ability to cook so little foods, I started to pull out the eggs and bread. Knowing how my father isn't so picky with his food, but rather not have the same thing over and over again, I decide to make him a few egg sandwiches.
I took for pieces of bread out of the bag and put the in the toaster, as I grabbed out a pan and put it on the stove. Waiting for a second, I started to make the eggs. As I stood there, I started to hum the song that Kyle had played at the school concert. The song was amazing.
When the toast was done, I quickly took them out of the toaster and put them on a plate, before taking the eggs out of the pan, and setting them on the plate. When I was finished, I put on the different things that my father liked on his sandwiches before setting it down at his spot with a glass of homemade orange juice.
I waited for my father to join me in the kitchen, as he liked to, as he called, test the food I had made before I clean up, in case I had to remake anything. So, I stood by the dining table in silence, hoping that he'd be downstairs any second.
Thankfully, my wish came true, as only a few minutes after that, I heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
When the footsteps came closer, I took a deep breath, hoping that he would also let me eat something today. My father came into the kitchen, wearing his suit. He was some business-type man, for what I didn't know. He never exactly told me what his occupation was, I always just guessed from how he was dressed.
He sat down at his spot, giving me a quick glance, before taking a bite out of his sandwich. Surprise was clear on my face, as my father started to scarf down the rest of the first sandwich. He shook his head, before continuing with his second sandwich.
When he had finished, I grabbed his plate and disposed of it in the sink before coming back the table. My father finished his glass of juice, then looked at me. There was something in his eyes that I couldn't make out. When my father had started to talk, I ignored the unknown emotion that flashed through his eyes.
"Since you have been listening to my rules, and have been doing your chores, I will allow you to make your self some scrambled eggs, but when you are done, you have to go do your chores. Alright?" he said, a small smile started to poke out of his straight face.
I gave a small nod, before my father stood and left, leaving me running back to the kitchen and started to take out the ingredients. As I was stirring the mixture for the eggs, I started to realize how hungry I actually was. My stomach felt like it had been filled with rocks as it was shrinking.
When my eggs were done, I quickly put them on a plate, and went to sit down at the table with a glass of my homemade orange juice. Any normal person who hadn't eaten in so long, would want to scarf down the eggs, but I, on the other hand, wanted to enjoy them, and started to eat them slowly.
I savored the taste of each bite, knowing that it could be a while before I get to have some eggs again. But sadly, for me, the eggs and juice were soon gone. I got up from my spot, and went back into the kitchen.
Since I was already there, I decided to the dishes quickly.
As I filled the sink with water, I grabbed a wash cloth and started to wash off the table and counters, as it was something that took only a few seconds to do. I went back to the sink and started to wash the dishes.
When I finished them, I ran back up to my room to finish getting ready. I went into my bathroom, and the first thing to happen was I caught a glimpse of my self in the mirror. After having just eaten, there seemed to be a little trace of color in my skin. This had made me smile.
I went back into my room, grabbing a sweat shirt, before running back downstairs. Since I only had a few chores to do, I sat on the bottom step for a minute, thinking of what I had to do.
Dishes -done!
Laundry
Yard Work
Sighing, I got up from my seat on the step and started to head to the laundry room, as it was closer than the back door. Trying to finish my chores as soon as possible, I quickly put a load in the washer and started it before running out the back door.
I always love doing most of the yard work, because it let me be outside. Also, my mother loved working in the gardens, and being in the outdoors. I guess I followed her on that.
When I was finished with all my chores, I went back up to my room. Since my father had left a while ago for work, I was free to do anything I wanted, as long as it followed my father's rules. I took my seat at the keyboard before starting to play a few notes. Soon enough, I had an idea and started to sing a few lyrics.
I just came to say goodbye
I didn't want you to see me cry, I'm fine
But I know it's a lie.
This is the last night you'll spend alone
Look me in the eyes so I know you know
I'm everywhere you want me to be.
The last night you'll spend alone,
I'll wrap you in my arms and I won't let go,
I'm everything you need me to be.
Before I could get any farther, I heard the doorbell ring. The sound seemed to bounce between the walls of the deserted house. It was weird to me, as before my twenty eight days, no one ever, and I mean ever, came to this house unless accompanied by my father, now it seemed to happen every few days. Sighing, I made my way down the stairs. I wondered who could be here? When I opened the door, a smile came to my lips.
Standing at the door was Kyle.
"H-hey," I said, softly.
"Hi," he replied with his award winning smile.
After a few seconds, I remembered that he was standing in front of me, and asked, "Why are you here?"
He blink, then recognition flashed across his face.
"Right well, I know what I said to you was harsh and I know you have the right to hate me forever, but I wanted to say I was sorry about that. As I had told you about Destinee, I was just scared to go through that again," he looked at me. Sincerity was clear in his eyes.
I smiled softly, then whispered, "All is forgiven."
He looked at me surprised, "Really!?"
I nodded.
His smile widened and he hugged me. I tensed up for a second, but then relaxed and hugged him back. It felt so good to be in his embrace. I felt safe, like nothing, or no one, could harm me. But way too soon, he pulled away and grabbed my hand.
"Kaelyn, will you please do me the honor of going on a date with me tomorrow?" Kyle asked.
I gasped. I was shocked, but the shock quickly vanished and I smiled.
"I would love to."
