"And I bleed,

I bleed,

And I breathe,

I breathe no more."  - Evanescence "Breathe No More"

Caleb's POV

You ever have one of those moments where you feel breathless? I'm not talking about the good, heart beating fast, butterflies in my stomach, she's so beautiful, filled with love breathless. I'm talking about the pain in my heart, anxiety and fear eating at your stomach, lungs on fire, head splitting, what the fuck is going on breathless?

I sat anxiously in my car, speeding down the road towards the school I had dropped Sophia off earlier this morning. The brief conversation I had with Bella, buzzing quietly in the background of my mind.

"Sophia...Sophia. Check on Sophia!" Bella screamed at me before I promptly ended our conversation.

I had raced out of the police station, not even offering an excuse for leaving, my mind centered on only reaching my baby sister. I rushed pass the cars on the road, cutting in front of vehicles and outright, running several stop signs. Paranoid thoughts plaguing my mind as I wondered why Bella had screamed at me to check on Sophia.

I knew that it had something to do with Victoria. The only question was, what had she done? Did she hurt Sophia? Did she kidnap her and plan to use her against us? I growled in the back of my throat, as I accelerated past another car and continued on my driving. I could feel my body shake in anger and fear for my baby sister's safety. She better be safe. She just had to be.

I heard the screech of the tires as I rapidly turned into the elementary school's parking lot. I didn't even bother to park correctly. I just stopped the car and bolted out the driver's door, my feet thundering against the pavement as I made my way to the building. I rushed through the front entrance, making my way to the main office, where I burst in.

"Where is Sophia Makah?" I demanded, not even caring to ask politely or be courteous. This was my baby's sisters life in danger now, to hell with formality.

The secretary looked up startled and stared wide eyed at me. I bit down the growl that was threatening to escape me as I saw her stand there silently.

"Where is my sister?" I gritted out.

At my words, she jumped slightly as if breaking from her frightened daze and began to scramble to find the information I requested.

"Um...what was her name again?" She asked nervously, her fear permeating the air.

"Sophia Makah. I need to know where she is. It's very important. There's been a family emergency" I informed her, trying to sound a tad bit nicer than my last few comments.

She just typed rapidly into the computer, before she answering me.

"She's in Mrs. Wilson's class. They're at recess, right now. They should be coming in soon"

"Thank you" I replied and I left the office.

I had no idea where I was in the building. I just let my wolf instincts take over so that I could track Sophia's scent. I sniffed the air one good time, before the sweet scent of oranges and apples passed through my nose. Found her.

I followed the scent towards the playground located behind the school building. My eyes searched along the blacktop, until I spotted her small figure surrounded by others children playing along with her. I felt my heart start to beat regularly again, as my lungs began to take in air again. She was okay.

I watched as she played four square with her classmates, her sweet laughter ringing through the air as her cheeks glowed a healthy red from her rigorous game. A small smile graced my lips, knowing that she was safe and happy.
