I panicked slightly when Preston fell unconscious on my shoulder and when Jay said 'It's a two time drug' I looked over at her, very confused. She saw me looking and answered my question without me having to say anything. "It means the affects of the drug come twice. Believe me... I know." She looked at the ground when she said that and I looked over at Jerome and Rob, even more confused than before. I reassessed the situation in my mind and it was only then I realised how many injuries there were among us.
Vikk was drugged and had dried blood on his head, Preston was drugged, Jerome was almost strangled, Lachlan was severally injured, I was struggling not to collapse again and we had a young teenage girl trying as best as she could to help us. Rob was the only one who seemed to be relatively okay, even though we were all traumatised. Preston suddenly slumped across my lap, scaring me and waking up Lachlan by landing heavily on his shoulder. Lachlan gasped and sat up suddenly and clutched his head at the sudden movement.
Jay rushed forward and gently got Lachlan to stand up and pulled him away from the drama, gently encouraging him to sit down in the pile of blankets in the corner. He did sit down but he stayed sitting up, watching the situation from further away. She then pulled Preston off my lap and lay him down where Lachlan had been before, pushing his hair out of his face and laying a blanket across his chest once again. She then walked over to Rob, tugged on his arm and whispered something in his ear. He nodded at whatever she had asked and picked up Vikk, walking with and laying him down next to Preston.
She sighed and looked across at all of us, those who were awake and those who weren't. "I think I need to explain what happened and why you're here. Just try not ask any questions please, I still find it really hard to talk about this." We nodded and she looked around at us again. "And please try not to interrupt, once I've got talking it's best not to stop me."
"You aren't the first group of people to end up here and you definitely aren't the first group of people to go through this exact situation. I wasn't part of the first group either. The people who took you have a system here, they take a group of 5 or 6 people who know each other, leave them for a while and then kill them off. One. By. One."
We all gave each other a look, but she was being deadly serious and definitely wasn't joking.
"I've been here for over a year and I wasn't alone when I first came. When I was taken I came with 5 of my friends; two other girls and 3 boys. I was here for 6 months before they did anything and within 3 months they were all dead. From there they plan to take more people and the cycle repeats."
Lachlan looked over at her; made eye contact and she nodded, clearly meaning that he could ask a question. "Why were you kept alive?" He said in a very soft tone, actually looking quite scared and afraid to upset her. Jay smiled small at Lachlan but answered him anyway, "To tell you guys. Every time someone from the previous group is kept alive, tells the next group and is then killed. So now I've told you, I could be dead within a week."
"This cycle has been going on for at least a decade as far as I know and there have been maybe 50 people killed in this organisation alone. I know my way around the building because there are several people who are a bit soft and they've showed me around the building; more than once." She sighed, looking down at the floor with tears in her eyes. "I had to watch them kill my best friends; and if I don't do something you're going to have to go through the same thing, and I don't want that."
Rob stood up and pulled her into a tight hug, letting her cry for a bit. While she wasn't watching we were all giving each other scared looks and Lachlan looked terrified. Both Preston and Vikk were still completely unresponsive and Jerome was sitting awkwardly behind Rob and Jay, very unsure of what to do. A thud made me jump, and the door swung open to reveal several people, two of which were holding guns. One of them stepped forwards and nodded in the direction of Jay.
"Good girl. You explained what would happen, now back off all of you!" The two men with guns walked into the room shifted the guns from Lachlan, to Jerome, to Rob and Jay, to me. One of them held his gun steadily on me and glared at me over the metal. "Move away from your friends!" My eyes widened and my arms started to shake. "Move! Now!" I still didn't move so he lowered his gun, pushed it into his pocket and walked over to me. I put my hands over my head in self defence but he pulled them away and picked me up by my arms and dragged me away. He threw me across the room and I ended up next to Lachlan by the blankets.
"None of you had better move, you understand me!" Everyone froze, including me and someone else entering the room, heading towards Vikk and Preston and we all started to silently panic. They reached into their pocket and pulled out two pills, one was yellow and one was white. He pushed the white one into Vikk's mouth and the yellow one into Preston's and then left the room quickly, but before he did he made eye contact with me and mouthed 'It's alright' gave me a quick wink and then moved on.
With no talking the three men left the room and the door swung shut with a clunk. There was silence for a few seconds before Jay looked at me and asked "Are you okay? He threw you very hard..." I nodded more worried about Preston and Vikk than myself but before I could say anything Vikk groaned and rolled onto his side, coughing violently before blinking and opening his eyes for the first time. And all I saw was panic.
