After the boys all left I was left on my own in the cell room. I trusted Michael and Nick enough to look after them because they looked after me and my friends when we were in the same position. I knew someone would come back in a few minutes to get me. Because I had told the boys what was happening I would have been killed. I probably wouldn't see them again.
I looked up to the vent, because I knew Mollie and Tyler's plan to get me out. We had used Morse code to communicate while the boys weren't listening. It was quite easy because it just looked like someone tapping their foot nervously and unless you looked closer you really couldn't see a pattern. I tapped out a code with my foot and waited for a reply; which was in the form of Tyler's head sticking through the vent.
"Come on, let's get a move on." Tyler stuck his arms through the vent and I grabbed onto his hands, letting him pull me up and into the vent. Mollie was sitting a few metres away facing a computer and a 3D map sat by her legs. I grinned at her when she turned around and she smiled tiredly back at me.
Mollie seemed to have no energy left and there were dark circles around her eyes but she was still the same girl I used to be best friends with. The girl I trusted with my life and the life she saved.
She let out a small sob and I crawled to her, enveloping her in a hug. She buried her face in my chest and I held her; letting her release all the pent up emotions that had been building. Tyler hugged me from behind and we simply sat there trying to forget everything we had been through. In all this time; two years, we had somehow made it this far and I didn't plan on giving up.
I was going to get them out. They had a life to live and the boys had something to go back too. I promised them.
Preston's POV.
I was so scared, I didn't want to let go of Jerome. As soon as Rob saw me in the doorway behind Jerome he motioned for me to go closer. I did so, but I hesitated, looking back to the doorway for Jay. She had been our rock the whole time we had been there and I wasn't sure if anyone had noticed that she wasn't there.
The guy called Nick closed the door behind me and I froze, terrified.
"Hey, it's okay, we-we just need to tell you something. Oh God- how do I say this." Michael pulled something out of his pocket and I almost laughed. Almost.
It was a cell phone and it almost seemed so ordinary that it almost relaxed me. Seeing something that I connected with was so comforting and it was so amazing because it almost seemed foreign in that environment.
"Look guys, you'll know what happened to the last group, Jay's friends. We know about Mollie and Tyler and we're working to get them and Jay out, as well as you. It's not going to be easy but we'll work it out. We're going tonight.
I started to shake at those words, I wasn't ready. Nick saw me and he lead me over to Rob's bed, which I sat down on.
"I understand that you're scared. You're risking your lives but there isn't any other way. We can't call anyone for help and we can't let you stay here because it's risking your lives by staying here, even more so than trying to run. The main group of people are going to start separating you tomorrow."
Mitch stared.
"How will we get out though, with all the guards?" Michael nodded.
"That's where we come in. Most of the guards don't want this because they've been forced into this. Us included in this part of thing because of our families. We don't want any of this to happen, but please just trust us, we have to escape this too."
He was almost pleading with us at that point but I don't think all of us believed him because he turned around and took off his shirt with Nick doing the same. I almost threw up at the sight.
Both of their backs had scars criss-crossing all over them from whips and knifes and dead in the centre was a tattoo. The tattoo read 'This man is a burden. He is here for service and he shall never leave.'
When Nick turned around he was almost crying. "Do you believe us now?"
I nodded and looked around at the others. Most of them looked terrified or slightly sick but we all seemed to be determined. Other than Lachlan, who was still knocked out cold on his bed.
"What about Lachlan? How is he going to get out?" Nick glanced over at him before pulling his shirt back on placing a hand on Lachlan's forehead, grimacing.
"Michael and I are getting some of the guards to take him. They'll pretend he's fallen too ill to stay with you guys and are taking him to our 'hospital', which is on the other side of the building." Lachlan and groaned and Nick jumped, pulling his hand away. I paled.
Lachlan was pale but his forehead was covered in sweat and he was tossing and turning on the bed. His arms were shaking and I could see visible goosebumps covering his arms from where I sat. His hair was no longer the bright blonde I was used too, but instead it was a dull colour and it was missing its usual shine. Michael ran over to Nick and they made eye contact for a second before jumping into action.
Nick ran to the door and bolted down the corridor while Michael opened the draw beside Lachlan's bed, pulling out a digital thermometer, which I recognised from home. He placed it in Lachlan ear and held it there for about a minute before pulling it out and reading it. His face creased in concern and then shock.
"Uh oh, we've got trouble."
