It was early morning by the time I woke up, all of the others having woken up before me. I looked around the new room with a new found interest because while the other room had been bland, with no colour what so ever, this room had pictures all over the walls, drawn by children who I assumed had been to the hospital for an extended period of time.
The walls also had brightly coloured paint covering them with pictures of the sky and fields of grass. I figured that the room must have been part of the children's ward at some point but they hadn't re-painted it.
Most of the others were sitting up and talking with each other but Vikk and Rob both seemed to be pretty out of it. There were dark bags under their eyes and they looked very tired, so much so that Vikk was shaking slightly and Rob was rubbing wrists nervously.
They both jumped when the door opened but it was just Adina and Katie with a trolley, food covering it. They handed out trays to all of us but I noticed how both Vikk and Rob just stared at them, not touching the food on them.
It was much the same food as the day before, cereal and toast but I wasn't complaining, food was food. Preston seemed to be feeling a lot better, he ate some of the food because according to Jerome, he didn't yesterday.
We all seemed to be in a much cheerier mood than we had been previously, even Vikk and Rob joined in on the talking after a little while, even though they still didn't touch their food. The chatter and laughter eventually fizzled out into a comfortable silence that was just natural so we didn't break it, it was nice to have silence actually.
Adina came back into the room after about half an hour and took our trays, leaving us alone for a while before she came back in with Katie to give us a check over, making sure we were okay, extra.
"Okay you guys, you guys are allowed to leave as soon as the police give you the all clear, but we want you know that a court date has been set, and you have to testify against the offenders. They need you to confirm the correct people."
The laughter that had started up fizzled out and the tension was clear in the air. Most of us had gone completely pale and there was an air of fear and uncertainty.
"When?"
"The court date is set for tomorrow and it could be up to a three day hearing depending on the evidence, although I doubt it with all proof we have, witnesses and footage alike."
Mollie and Tyler seemed to be the most scared, terrified of seeing the people who had kept them held prisoner for over two years. Vikk had gone pale again and he looked a bit sick but he seemed to be trying hard to compose himself again.
"The police want to give you a once over of what will happen, so you know what will happen and you'll probably have to present evidence if the footage isn't enough."
The air in the room was mostly terror, we really didn't want to see our captors again.
The door opened and an official looking police officer walked in, his chest covered in badges and a gun hooked in his belt. We all looked at each and immediately backed up, very scared of this official looking person who had a very similar air to our captors.
The officer noticed the fear in the room and smiled, setting out to reassure us that he wasn't there to hurt us. He sat down in one of the chairs, leaving the rest of us slightly calmer but still not completely relaxed.
I think most of the fear came from the fact that he had a gun, the one thing he could use against us. We had more manpower than him, what with eight of us and one of him.
"Alright you guys, I understand that you've been through a lot recently but we figured that it was best to get the hearing over and done with. We just need you to tell us that we have to correct people to charge, you won't need to do anything else."
Some of the tension faded, the thing we were most afraid of was having to present evidence the convicted.
"You'll have to stay through all of the first day, but if the hearing lasts more than a day you won't have to be there. The most crucial evidence is the footage on the tapes and I think that's all the evidence we'll need to convict most of them to life in prison."
Vikk shifted a bit and Mitch looked over at me, I hoped that it would be the case.
"There will be 7 main people charged that we need you to confirm and several other people with slightly less violent charges but it'll be 50 years minimum for them probably."
Adina and Katie were standing in the doorway watching the situation unfold with silent eyes.
"What will they be charged with?"
"Most of the people with lesser charges will probably be charged with kidnapping, rape and statutory rape but these are the people with no evidence of murder found so far. The people with more serious charges will probably end up with life in prison for murder but there are a few other charges like kidnapping, rape and statutory rape as well."
I felt most of us freeze up at the word rape, never hearing anyone mention rape in the organisation.
"I see a few of you are shocked at that, aren't you?"
I saw a few movements out of the corner of my eye, nods from some of the others. Mollie and Tyler didn't look shocked at all, they just looked solemn and even blank.
"Mollie? Tyler? You didn't tell them did you?"
They shook their heads, hands clasped together, looking at the floor nervously and avoiding our eyes.
"They were the source of the statutory rape, or the rape of a child."
