Chapter Seventeen

C H A P T E R S E V E N T E E N

            Lila rolled her eyes at Logan when he shot up.

            “Talk?” He asked smoothly but Lila could see through the façade. He was nervous. The words 'We need to talk' never ended up well in most cases and Lila could have laughed. Did Logan really think they would 'break up'? Hell, he hadn't even asked her to be his girlfriend, he'd probably just assumed due to the fact that they were mates.

            “Yeah... about the guardian crap?” She told him acting like he was stupid. A look of realisation dawned on Logan's face.

            “Oh... That.”

            “Yeah. And the fact that you didn't visit me all week. I get it, Logan, I do. The feeling that someone's done something really bad and you don't know whether to forgive them? I don't know what that feels like but I'm assuming it's not easy. And then on top of that, all this guardian stuff.” Lila took a deep breath. She'd said most of it without taking a breath, she just let it all out. “I know it's not going to be easy and you don't have time to adjust to it, but we really need to do something about it. Evangeline keeps blabbering on about finding the stone.”

            “Thank you for bringing me into this. Really, thank you.” Evangeline sarcastically said.

            Oh, don't be like that. You're the one who brought me into this.

            “I did-”

            Did not? Oh, so you didn't have to pick me? Lila internally smirked. Oh yeah, she'd beaten Evangeline... For once.

            “Huh. Right. I still don't know what this 'guardian stuff' entails.” Logan air-quoted around the 'guardian stuff' and Lila just sighed. This wasn't going to be an easy conversation.

            “I'm surprised Callum hasn't told Logan yet but then Callum was always the nice one. Easing people into situations. I always told him my way was better.”

            Oh, really? Lila didn't believe Evangeline. Her way was better? Really? So by making me murder someone, then throwing me into this situation by taking me to some abandoned house and making a room look like it had before and telling me I'm a guardian... That is a better way to ease me into the situation?

            “An-”

            And then not telling me there was a book on you? Letting me read it in front of Alpha Darren? I think I'd rather Callum's way and I don't even know the guy. Lila snapped at Evangeline. Yeah, it was all cosy for her but not for the host.

            “I took you to that place to see the destruction of the last wolf I went to. It didn't end well because she didn't listen to me. She just headed in without any support, thinking she knew what to do.”

            Yeah? So then why haven't you told me anything about this 'League' that wants me? I had to be told after I was attacked! And you couldn't even help me! Lila was furious about that; her wolf could murder three people when she was upset and angry but when Lila was helpless, Evangeline just stood by the sidelines? The fact that Evangeline hadn't even helped Lila when she was feeling sick with herself, she had to go through the ordeal alone.

            “That's for another time. If I told you everything like I told her, you'd end up dead. I'm not having another wolf lose his mate.”
