2011, Lockhart
Lila scowled at her room. It was filled with boxes and she really couldn't be bothered to unpack. It had taken her ages to pack before she came here and it was a long and hard task - she didn't want to forget anything.
“Lila!” She heard a deep voice call her from behind.
“Justin!” She squealed at her twin brother, who seemed to have grown at least a foot since she last saw him. He gave her a bear hug and had to slap his back before he seemed to let go. “I missed you!”
“I didn't miss your smelly face.” Justin smirked and Lila slapped him across the head.
“Meanie.” She sulked.
“Whatever, Li. You know I don't mean it like that.” She smiled and shrugged, acting like she didn't know what he was on about. “And why are you wearing dungarees?”
“They're comfy!” Lila argued. She knew she wasn't the best at fashion and that dungarees were to never be worn in public, but they were comfy and she didn't fancy sweating in some of her other clothes.
“They're ugl-ay!” Justin exclaimed. Lila knew her brother took pride in his appearance, she on the other hand, didn't (well, not a lot). Yeah, she liked to look nice when she was out but she didn't want to go out of her way to look nice. Her rule was as long as she felt comfy, and thought she looked okay, the outfit was wearable.
“Whatever. You gonna help me unpack?” She asked, she was the lazy one out of the pair of them. Her brother loved sports and played on the school's basketball team. He was the star of the game. Lila, however, hated sports. She didn't mind running, but she always preferred reading or staying indoors. She did support her brother, and she wanted to make up for all the games she'd missed this year. Thinking about it for a moment, she realised that she hadn't actually gone to the same high school as Justin... ever! They were inseparable when they were at home, or outside of school.
“Yeah, sure. Lazy ass.” He walked past Lila and into her room, where he managed to trip over one of the few boxes which she'd dropped on the floor. “Lila...”
“Yeah, yeah. I know. Gimme your paw.” She waved him off and stuck out her hand. Taking it, he made sure to pull her down. She fell down with a large thump.
“If I'm down then so are you.” He smirked while Lila scowled. She opened the nearest box, and found a book, which was completely packed. She looked at it for a moment before deciding that she would hit him with it. And that is what Mamaw found them doing almost an hour later.
“Lila and Justin Yang! What on Earth do you think you two are doing?” Mamaw sighed. “Lila, you haven't even unpacked yet!”
Lila giggled and sat up, holding the book to her chest. Mamaw was surprised that the book hadn't broken yet. “Sorry, Mamaw. Jay pulled me down. I couldn't help it.” She smiled sheepishly.
“I didn-” Justin started before he saw the look on Mamaw's face. “Sorry Mamaw, sorry Lila.” Lila smirked and it was wiped off before she saw Mamaw's raised eyebrows at her.
“Sorry Mamaw. Sorry Justin.” She said begrudgingly. Wasn't her fault that Justin was an idiot.
“Mhmm. Right, now you two should start unpacking.” Lila nodded whilst Justin looked shocked.
