Finding You

Chapter 9

My eyes fluttered open slightly to see Reed, shirtless. He was talking to his brother, about me.

"Why is she still here" His brother asked. Reed's eyes wondered in my direction. I closed my eyes as quickly as possible.

"She fell asleep last night and no one came to pick her up" I heard Reed say. A smile found its way upon my lip.I heard the door to Reed's room close and feet shuffling around the room. I started moving my arm and 'waking' up.

I opened my eyes to see that Reed had already put on a shirt. I frowned but shook it off. I check my phone and found that I had 13 missed calls and 39 text from my mom and my sister. I quickly got up from Reed's bunk bed.

Before I could close the door and leave Reed grabbed my arm. "I need to go" I spoke softly. Reed nodded. "Are you going to the game tonight?" He asked me. I shook my head.

I hate football and our team always loses the game. "You should go" He raised an eyebrow. I shrugged. "My friends and I are going and you can bring your sister" He suggested. I nodded. "I will need to asked" I said, shrugging.

After what happened I don't think I will be allowed to go anywhere.

"I hope I'll see you there" He winked. I nodded, hoping I can go.

When I got home my mom was on the couch. I could tell she was frustrated by the way she was sitting. As soon as she saw me she got up and walked in my direction. I stood at the door wondering what she was going to do. "Why didn't you come home last night?" My mom half yelled. She never really liked screaming. "I fell asleep over there and lost track of time, I am so sorry" My mom became even more frustrated. She shook her head. "Fine, but next time call or your grounded" She pointed a finger at me. I nodded, agreeing. "Does that mean I can go to the football game at my school today with my friends?" I asked. I'm guessing it was a bad time because she didn't answer.

I hopped out of the shower, wrapping a towel around myself. Reed has texted me twice and I answered him each time with the same thing. "I'm not sure." Just in case my mom did let me go to the football game I changed into a pair of my lace jean shorts, a white and blue top with a navy blue varsity jacket. I tied my hair in a high ponytail and put on a pair of white Vans.

As I strolled down the stairs my mom couldn't help but notice me all dressed up. "Going somewhere" She asked. I nodded sitting next to her. "Only if you let me" I said. For a few minutes or so we sat in silence until she finally said yes.

"Be back by 10" She answered as I walked down the sidewalk towards Reed's car. I waved goodbye and got inside. The whole car ride was really awkward. No one talked.

As we pulled up to our school I could help but notice all the girls looked gorgeous compared to me. Some had dresses on for 'Senior Night' and other just looked like that naturally. I sighed and notice Reed was looking at one girl in particular, Ciara. I rolled my eyes and got out of the car. Reed followed behind me. "I'm paying" Reed smiled at me as we walked toward the ticket booth. I shrugged and let him pay.

We found a couple of his friend sitting at a dark corner, on the grass. I followed Reed to there spot and sat down with them. "Hi" I waved at Joel. He greeted me with a friendly smile. "Oh, that's Jeremiah" Reed pointed at the boy sitting next to Joel. "Hi" I waved at him. "Sup" He answered.

Some of my favorite music started playing like "What About Love"by Austin Mahone. I loved him almost as much as I lived R5. I think Reed notice that I was tempted to started singing. Instead he just started singing.

Soon after Joel and Jeremiah started singing. I felt so left out. "How about if you join in?" Joel nudged me. I shook my head. "Oh come on you can't be that bad" He added. I still shook my head. Reed raised an eyebrow at me and kept sining. I sat there, awkwardly, listening to the way they harmonized. When the last chorus came I slightly opened my mouth and can faintly hear myself mumble the last part. The boys started clapping. I smiled, awkwardly, thinking they didn't hear me.

After a couple of songs and singing along with the boys we got bored and started playing truth or dare.

"Ellie" Jeremiah said. My head snapped up to the sound of my name. "Truth or Dare?" He asked. I did not want to have to start singing, again to a total stranger, I picked truth. Jeremiah smirked. "Who do you have a crush on?" He asked. I raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?" I snapped at him. He smirked. "Is he one of us" He asked. I could feel my palms starting to sweat. I didn't want to tell them I had a crush on Reed especially since he is sitting right next to me. I shrugged and mumbled,"maybe." Jeremiah got in closer. "What was that?" He asked. "Maybe" I whispered even lower then the first time. He smirked again. I looked from Reed to Jeremiah to Joel then back to Reed. Each time I looked from one to the other I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I had to lie. "Joel" I whispered, lying.

I didn't think anyone heard but to my surprise it shocked everyone, even myself. I mean, I used to have a crush on Joel in sixth grade, not anymore. I looked over at Joel he had a shocked expression on his face and Reed did to. Joel smiled back at me. I guess he was being nice enough. I weakly smiled back.

What did I do? I asked myself.


Joel's POV:

"Joel" I distinctively heard Ellie mumble.

I was so surprised to hear my name come out of her mouth. Though I was flattered to be honest. I smiled at her. She is really smart and she is pretty. I just hope Reed doesn't take this the wrong way. I seriously thought she liked Reed.

"Well" I heard Reed say while getting up, followed by Jeremiah. "We are going to get some nachos" Reed's eyes lit up. I nodded.

"That leaves two" I said, laughing. She smiled slightly. I could tell she was awkward almost as much as I was."Um..." She mumbled. I was looking at her eyes now. They were a nice shade of brown. "I-I....never mind" She shook her head. I wondered what she was going to say but I shrugged it off.

"Do you like me back?" Ellie said. Her right eye open. Her left eye closed.

I nodded. "Of course" I wasn't lying when I said that. I did like her just a little bit. I didn't spend much time with her like Reed does. If I got to know her better I think we would... have fun. I smiled to myself.
