Finding You

Chapter 13

Reed and I didn't talk to each other today after what happened Friday.

I sighed as I walked from my locker into my 6th period. Liana wasn't here today which caused the room to have a much happier vibe. I smiled as I casually walked to my seat.

I saw Reed walk in fixing his hair to the side. He glanced over at me and smiled. I felt myself blush and looked the other way. To avoid the awkwardness. I saw a shadow figure walk towards me. I smiled as I saw who it was. "Hey" I heard my voice crack. Reed tilted his head back and gave me a friendly smile. I chuckled and got out my supplies while Reed sat in the desk next to me.

"I'm sitting with you today" He said taking his backpack off and placing it down next to his desk.

I smiled and look up at the board as our teacher walked in.When the bell rang our science teacher started talking about atoms and cells and other related stuff. A piece of paper landed on my desk as I was writing. I glanced over a Reed and smiled. He shrugged and he gestured to open the piece of paper. I did and it read: Going to the dance?

I wrote back: No :(

Seconds after I gave it back to him he wrote back: Joel didn't ask you yet?

I wrote back again: No?

Reed didn't reply back after that. I frowned and went back to taking notes on atom. It was so boring until I saw the same piece of paper on my desk.

I smiled at that. I was going to write back until my teacher said my name. "Yes?" I asked. She pointed at the piece of paper on my desk and told me to come forward and give it to her. As I walked down to the front of the classroom everyone started laughing. I glanced back at Reed who glared at the others. While I wasn't looking I tripped over one of the desks legs and fell, face first, on the floor. That made everyone laugh harder and my teacher glare at me.

Even my teacher hates me.

Reed got up from his seat and helped me up. "You okay?" He asked extending his hand so I can take it. I gripped onto his hand and he helped pull me up. "I'm fine" I said, dusting myself off. He smiled and walked back to his desk. That made everyone shut up. I quickly walked up to my teachers desk and handed her the note. She read the note silently and threw it away.

The bell finally rang singling we can leave. "I'll see you at the dance" Reed said, passing by me. I smiled and shoved my books into my backpack. I glanced over at the door and saw that Joel was there, waiting for me. I waved at him and he smiled. I threw my backpack over my shoulder and walked towards him. He embraced me with a hug.

"So going to the dance?" He asked, his arm around my shoulder. "I don't know are you asking me to?" I mocked him. He shrugged. "Maybe" I laughed at his attempt at being cute. "Yes I am going, now" I said. Joel rubbed my shoulder and we walked outside. My mom was near by so I threw his arm off my shoulder. "Your mom?" He asked. I nodded, sadly. "When are you going to tell her?" He whispered. I shrugged. "Never, I'm not planning that she finds out either" I said, crossing my arms. My mom was fine with just having guy friends but she doesn't approves with a boyfriend. She thinks I'm to young to understand.He nodded. "Fine, see you tonight" Joel winked at me and walked over to where Reed was standing. When it hit me. Reed was watching the whole time.

"You look fabulous" My sister said. I was wearing a pink laced strapless dress with pink vans that my sister had. We're the same size. I had my hair down, curled at the ends and a flower headband that went around my head. I also had a pair of tiny bow earrings. My sister made me put on some lipgloss and a little bit of mascara.

I smiled at myself in the mirror. "I haven't felt this pretty in a long time" I said out loud. My sister understood by what I meant because she knew that the people at my school are idiots. "Well, believe it babe" She said snapping her fingers. I laughed and sat on my bed.

"So who's the boy?" She asked. I blushed. I haven't told her yet that I have a boyfriend but I can trust her."My boyfriend" I whispered loud enough so that she could hear. "Oh, what's his name?" She asked. "Joel" I said taking out my phone and looking at it. "What happened to Reed?" She asked. I shook my head. I could tell she knew what I was thinking, but shrugged it off. "Awe I remember when I had my first boyfriend" She sat down next to me flipping her hair. "I was in 9th grade like you" She exclaimed. I smiled until I heard a faint knock on my door. "It's open" I yelled. Soon my mom was in my room and observing me. Giving me a talk before going downstair. My mom only thought my, guy friend, was taking me to the dance so I won't be alone.

Joel was standing at the door wearing a grey shirt and jeans with a blazer. His hair was simply spiked up, as usual and he wore grey converse. When he saw me he did a double take and smiled. I blushed and walked to his side. "Picture?" My mom asked. Joel shrugged. He wrapped his arm around my waist. My mother raised an eyebrow but took the picture anyway. "Call me before you come out" My mom waved at me as I walked down the sidewalk as Joel walked besides me.

SKIP CAR RIDE:

Joel opened the car door so I can get out. Turns out his mom knows about us. I thanked him and got out. At the door of the school gym, Joel did a unexpected gesture. He held my hand. I never held hands with a boy before. Besides Reed, but we were never going out. I blushed as he held it and opened the door to the gyms.

There was a group of girls staring at us and giggling. I got in closer to Joel. "Forget about them, they're jealous" I felt less nervous when he said that.

When we reached the corner that Reed, Joel, Arron, Jeremiah, Raven and I were going to meet up, I saw Reed's facial expression change. He stared at Joel's and I interwind hands. I frowned and felt a sharp pain hit me. "Hey girl" Raven said pulling me aside. I smiled. "Hey"

Raven and I talked and danced, well she danced, I'm not into dancing. "You never told me you and..." She pointed at Joel. I smiled, "Yeah I know." Raven smiled. Joel walked towards us and Raven left and pulled Jeremiah to dance. I blushed as Joel got closer. From behind him Reed stared at us. I made eye contact with him and gave a weak smile. "Hey" Joel said. I smiled, awkwardly. We stood there until the song "Everybody Talks" by Neon Trees played. Joel quickly pulled me aside and held my hands. He started serenading me and dancing making me laugh. In the middle of the chorus I joined him and we both looked like fools, dancing with one another.

That went on for a couple of songs until "Mirrors" by Justin Timberlake came on. Joel let go of me and scratch the back of his head, thinking. I rolled my eyes, giggling. "Come on" I grabbed him and he pulled me in close. He smiled while our foreheads touched, like in the movies. I placed my hands on his shoulder and we slow danced to the song. As the song ended I felt Joel lean in closer. I didn't know what to do.

Should I lean in? Should I step back? Should I even have my first kiss with him?

I snapped out of my thoughts and heard Joel whisper, "Can I?" I nodded, nervously. He leaned in closer again and I felt his lips on mine.I didn't back away, I smiled through it. I felt him pull away and hold my hand. I glanced behind him and saw Reed staring and when he notice me looking at him he took a sip of the drink in his hands and started talking to Arron. Raven was holding Jeremiah's hand which means they hit it off. I laughed mentally and let Joel lead me back towards the group.

Out of the corner of my eye I could see Reed looking at me. I didn't mind. It's not the first time.

Even though I am not going out with him I felt like I was hurting him. And I know he doesn't like me back. Or does he?
