   PAIGE'S POV

I sat in the passenger seat of my mom's car, Phil hastily speeding after the ambulance. They said there's a 30% chance they could bring Dan back. The tears on my face had dried, but were close to being replaced. Phil was silent, only mumbling something occasionally.

   "Do you think they might-"

"I don't know." He responded softly. The hospital was about ten minutes away, and each minute wasted could affect the outcome of Dan's life.

In the hospital, we have to give our statements to the police officers, so they could track down Jonah. He wouldn't be that hard to find, due to the fact that he left so much evidence behind. He didn't think that we would go to the police.

"The hospital won't think he's a guardian, even if they take his X-ray. It's complicated, but we're so well disguised, they won't discover his wings even if they do surgery." Phil said randomly.

    "Well, that's good, I guess." I sniffled.

I haven't known the guy for that long, and he's made such an impact in my life already. I couldn't cope with the thought of not having him in my life.

The ambulance horns shut off, and we pulled into the parking lot of the hospital. The last time I was here, was because he saved my life. And I couldn't save his.

They pulled him out of the vehicle rather quickly, and he was in the building before we could even find a parking space. Phil found one, and he silently shut off the car and we stepped into the lobby. The smell would forever remind me of tonight. We told the lady at the front desk our situation, and she typed away on the computer. She gave us a sympathetic look, and allowed us to pass.

Our silence was finally evident as our feet hit the tile of a hospital at four in the morning. Neither of us had the energy to speak.

"We need to come up with a story, they can't know he's a guardian, and Jack and Finn must be somewhere in this building as well." Phil said, his voice shaking. He was going to cry again soon.

"Okay, well, just say that Dan owed Jonah money, and he couldn't get it back to him. And Jack and Finn were there to help, and Jonah and his group attacked them all."

"Sounds good." Phil said as a nurse walked up to us.

"Are you Paige Lawrence and Phil Lester?" The nurse said. We both nodded.

"Good. Well, I am very sorry about everything that has happened to you, and we are doing everything we can to save your friend. At the moment, he has been pronounced dead, but there is still a small chance we can bring him back. We hope it goes well." She said with a fake smile.

"Uhm, we have another friend here too, Jack Harries?" I asked.

"Yes, he's doing well," She said, checking her clipboard. "He's awake, but can't receive visitors at the moment." She said, walking away.

The next hours dragged by, talking to police officers, calling my parents, comforting Phil, Phil conforting me. They reported every hour, and by ten in the morning, we began to lose hope. Our phones were dead, the batteries wasted on doodle jump. All our money gone, spent on coffee and snacks to keep us awake and keep our minds steady. We stood up to go home, collect our things and get some rest, when a door slammed open and we heard footsteps running down the hall.

"Wait! Wait!" We heard a voice say.

We turned around, our heart beats quickening. The hope must of been evident on our faces, because the nurse beamed into a smile, but quickly frowned again.

"He's alive-" She said, but couldn't finish, since me and Phil let out breaths of relief, and engulfed each other.

"But he's in a coma." She finished. My heart fell again, and I saw Phil frown softly. We had ten seconds of extreme happiness, just for it to be taken away again. It was terrible.

He has to wake up sometime, right? And when he does, I'll be right by his side, smiling at him. Jonah will be arrested later, and we can continue on with our normal lives, nothing bad ever happening again. I just have to wait for him to wake up.

"You can visit him, if you'd like." The nurse smiled.
