Six - A Distraction

I trudged to the café the next morning determined to finish as much school work as I could. Obviously, I couldn't get anything done yesterday because of Angelina's odd behavior, which lead to an immense amount of over-thinking.

But I wasn't planning on letting this get to me today.

School is very important to me and I never let anything get in way with my academics, especially girls.

But Angelina wasn't any girl.

I know I've only spoken to her once and that anything else was just me observing her, but that's what she does too.

And maybe despite all our differences, there was one thing in common. And maybe that's what gives me hope in us.

Maybe Angelina was having mood swings or something, or maybe she was on her period.

But her red eyes from yesterday weren't attributable to mood swings, anyone could tell this.

I entered the café taking in its usual beautiful scent which managed to take my mind off things for a while.

I greeted Lilly and cut our morning conversation short indicating I had work to do.

Today, I wasn't even glancing at the door every time someone stepped in.

After one hour of hard work I signaled to Lilly to bring me my usual order and made my way to the bathroom to rinse my face with some water.

She was here.

First thing I noticed was her beautiful long braid cascading down her back.

I had to see her face, I had to take a look at her, make sure she's okay.

That's when she spun her head as if sensing someone was watching her, then she turned around.

She actually turned her head as if she hadn't seen me.

As if I was one of those regular customers around the café.

I walked a few steps ahead to face her and searched for her eyes but she wouldn't even glance at me.

All she did was turn a blind eye on me.

To say I was irritated would be an understatement. I wasn't just irritated I was also displeased and confused as fuck.

Frantically, I asked "Did I like do something wrong?" my voice a little louder than I intended.

She looked up at me "What makes you say that?"

Her response was so cool and casual as if life's dandy full of rainbows and unicorns right now.

"Um okay let me think" I said sarcastically using my fingers as if to count "so we have this really pleasant conversation the other day then the next day you come looking like something the cat dragged in, no offence here –"

"None taken" she says interrupting.

I ignored her "and when I tried to make sure everything was okay you just brush me off then today you look at me then turn your head around like I was wearing some sort of fucking invisibility cloak" I said using way too many hand gestures to express my annoyance.

Then Angelina did something that made me unsure whether I wanted to her rip her braid off or hug her.

She laughed. And god, it was the most adorable thing ever.

So adorable it almost made me forget about my outburst.

"What's so funny?" I asked calming down.

"Just you, using a Harry Potter reference. I'm sorry I just really love him."

I didn't even answer.

"But to answer your question, I realized you're a distraction and I have a lot on my plate right now I could do well without a guy taking my mind off my responsibilities. Now if you please, don't make this café a rankling place for me, I actually like the coffee here."

And with that she gathered her things and left, her braid swaying due to her fast steps.
