"He's not getting any better" I froze.

Her eyes were bloodshot. Like she's been crying for hours straight and I was here sipping coffee. It pained me to see her in that state and to add insult to injury, there was nothing I could do.

The only rational response I thought of was to hug her. So I did.

She hugged me back instantly burying her face in my neck. I ran my fingers through her hair whispering soothing words that I didn't quite believe myself.

"It's going to be okay"

"He's going to be fine"

But truth is, I wasn't sure of that. I am in no place to tell her that. What if I'm giving her false hope?

Angelina's response was soft murmurs and silent crying.

We still stood there, hugging each other near the door. People rushing in and out past us giving us concerned glances. But we didn't care, we didn't notice.

It was just us.

Her, in her dolorous state.

Me, commiserating with her unfortunate circumstance.

And despite how distressing we looked and felt, it was still our moment.

Nick showed up holding two steaming cups which could contain nothing but heavenly and heartwarming coffee.

"Chocolat chaud?" He offered sympathetically.

Angelina wiped her eyes with her sleeves.

Her nose was red, her eyes were still teary and her cheeks we slightly blushed.

God, I have never seen anything more beautiful.

And although she was a mess, she was one exquisite mess.

We made our way to her usual table after politely accepting the hot chocolate.

'Chocolat chaud', what a beautiful name.

I took a sip and warmth flooded my body forthwith.

"So do you want to talk about it?"I asked hesitantly.

She took a sip with her eyes closed followed by a deep breath, then she exploded into a full on conversation about her brother's state.

She filled me in with all the details.

How he's having his treatments but there's no positive signs yet, how every time she sees him she can't help but stare at his skeletal body because he lost too much weight. How she's sick of seeing him spend hours with tubes connected from his body to the dialysis machine yet he still doesn't complain.
But here's the worst part, the doctors are expecting internal bleeding soon, which is a crucial state. This can be prevented by only one solution, a kidney transplant.

Angelina said that she had volunteered the moment these words left the doctor's mouth. But her parents refused.

She stormed out of the hospital then.

Part of me can't get rid of the thought that she didn't just storm away to anywhere. She came to the café.
She came to me.
