We were drenched to say the least.Angelina's hair was sticking to her face and her cheeks and nose were pink-stained. I was pretty sure I looked similar to her because I could feel my hair sticking to my forehead but of course, I didn't look half as good as she did.
Because, only Angelina could look adorable even when she's soaking from head to toe.
I couldn't deny the fact that my now wet socks annoyed the hell out of me, but I'd walk a mile in wet socks if it means I'll spend such a lively time with Angelina.
"Can't remember the last time I've had so much fun." She said as she came to a halt.
"Me neither, I owe you for this one." I said breathing heavily.
"Well, it wouldn't have been half as fun without you so I think we're even." She chuckled.
I thanked god she was too busy sticking out her tongue to catch raindrops that she couldn't see the blush that crept over my face. I loved this side of Angelina, the bubbly and immature side.
"Alright so if we walk for like 2 more minutes, we'll reach my apartment which by the way, has a heater, a coffee maker and lots of blankets." I said winking. I didn't know how or from where I got that sudden surge of courage to allow these words to roll out of my tongue, but I was glad I offered when she said "Well, what are we waiting for?" and intertwined your fingers with mine.
I tried to tell my heart to calm down and that I had to get used to this, it's just holding hands. But it was hard to control anything when she kept glancing at me sideways and smiling as she bit her lips and some droplets were sticking to her eyelashes and god, she looked so beautiful I was scared I wouldn't be able to walk straight.
As we reached my apartment I pulled out my keys and looked up to see Mrs.Winmorgen wave at me from the balcony on the floor just above mine.
"What on earth is she doing in this weather?" Angelina whispered in my ears.
I ignored the goosebumps.
"Says the girl who ran like half a mile in the soaking rain just for pleasure." I said smirking as I made my way up the stairs.
"Touché." She said laughing.
I struggled with the keys trying to open the door but I wasn't really paying attention because never in my whole life would I have imagined bringing Angelina to my apartment one day. Thank god I kept the place considerably neat.
"After you" I said as you made your way inside.
"Your place is lovely." She exclaimed her eyes roaming around the place.
"Yeah thanks."
I hated that place, it reminded of the days when at least all of us were actually alive under the same roof.
"Okay first things first, I need a shower." She said clapping her hands.
"The bathroom's on the right but pass by Lindsey's room first, she still has some clothes left here. Her room's just across the bathroom the one with the sign that says 'Humans don't barge in like hurricanes, they knock first.'" I said all too fast as I tried to switch on the heater in the living room.
"Savage that one." She said chuckling as she went to Lindsey's room.
I slumped down on the couch trying to register the fact that Angelina was in my house. What do normal guys do when they have girls over? Excluding making out because obviously, that was out of question. My thoughts were interrupted when she walked in on me minutes later wearing a pair of black sweatpants and a white sweater and her hair tied up in a bun.
She looked so naturally beautiful.
"Your turn." She said making her way to the couch.
I ran to take a shower and was done in practically two minutes.
"Didn't know you owned this huge collection of vinyls." I heard her saying as I walked into the living room.
"Yeah I have a thing for vinyls and record players." I said shyly.
"Can I play this?" She asked gesturing to The Fray's vinyl.
"Good choice" I said and took it to play it on the old record player.
After carefully placing the needle to spin smoothly on the vinyl's surface, I turned around to find Angelina holding two steaming cups.
"Chocolat chaud?" she offered.
"Merci" I said and placed it on the coffee table to get some blankets.
Angelina was already seated on the couch holding her chocolat chaud between her delicate fingers. I sat beside her and sprawled the blanket on us. Surprisingly, she scooted closer and laid her head on my chest.
"Do you mind?" She asked hesitantly her eyes widening in such an adorable way.
"S-s-ure" I said pathetically as I managed to wrap my arms around her.
We just sat there holding each other as The Fray played in the background.
'If you forget the way to go
And lose where you came from
If no one is standing beside you
Be still and know I am
Be still and know that I'm with you
Be still and know I am'
My heart beat a thousand times faster at those lyrics and I could feel hers quickening too. It was odd how a total stranger could sing some words that can touch your heart in such a way. I felt her squeeze my hands and I wondered if it was as if to mean those words were the ones she wanted to say, or maybe she wanted me to tell her that, to reassure her. Anyways, I could tell she felt connected to the lyrics as much as I did.
"I remember randomly walking in the street when I left the house after I fought with my parents and needed some fresh air, that's when I saw the café. I mean I knew it was there but when I saw you through the glass calmly drinking and reading, I knew I had to give this café a shot. And I'm glad I did. This was by far, the best serendipity ever." She said smiling as she looked at me.
"But this isn't a serendipity, this is fate, it's destiny. We were meant to meet. And I don't know what we are or where we currently stand, but I do know that god has it all planned for us. We were destined to be here for each other, to make each other whole because we both lost pieces of ourselves along the way." I surprised myself and even her because she raised her eyebrows but smiled that breathtaking smile of hers nonetheless.
She took my now empty cup of chocolat chaud and placed it beside hers on the coffee table and then rummaged through her bag by the couch side and pulled out Erika.
"Yes, we're destined." She said hugging Erika and burying her face in my chest.
