As we walked through the hospital – may I add- hand in hand, I was a having a minor panic attack.

I'm meeting Angelina's sick brother.

I have to make small talk about god knows what, I have to meet her expectations and I might even – god forbid- have to run into her family.

Angelina was a bit stressed too, I could tell it from her grasp, it was a bit tense. So I squeezed it softly as an act of reassurance.

Stressed or not, she walked around smiling and waving to the hospital staff and nurses as if she's known them for years.
And who knows, maybe she does.

After some quick detours and swerving into hallways we were facing a door that read the numbers '1605'.

"That's – that's my b-"

"Your birthday, I know." She said interrupting me.

She took a deep breath, squeezed my hand then made her way in.

"No Sofie, I didn't finish that nasty soup and I'm not going to so don't bother and go back to flirting with the new nurse guy" said a voice who I assumed belonged to Noah.

"No dipshit, it's Angelina, and I have company."

A book was hiding his face but he quickly removed it at the sound of her voice I presume.

"Is it the Erik guy?" He asked as Angelina stood beside him.

Oh god, he knows my name. He knows me.

I smiled thinking that Angelina must have mentioned me.

"Yes Noah, I'm the Erik guy. Glad to finally meet you." I said as I shook his hand.

He had blond hair unlike his sister and chocolate brown eyes. The perfect contrast.

"I can say the same. I've been waiting to see the guy Angelina talks nonstop about." Noah said glancing at his sister who turned a bit red on the spot.

"Okay enough you guys bond over video games or whatever guys talk about until I ask Sofie about some stuff."

"I already like you." I said getting comfortable on the couch beside Noah's bed.

"Last time I checked, I was the brother. Meaning, I'm the one who has to like you since you and my sister are a thing." He said smirking. "But why do you like me?"

I laughed, he had a sarcastic side just like his sister.

"Well because I saw you reading an Agatha Christie book that's why. Seems like good taste in literature runs in the family."

"Well it sure does. And I assume you do too since Angelina told me that when she finally plucked the courage to talk to you, you were reading 'Diary of an Oxygen Thief'."

"She told you about that?" I asked shocked.

"Yeah. She talks about you a lot like you put the stars in her sky or whatever. But she's happy and that's what matters."

I couldn't help but smile and I lowered my gaze so he wouldn't see me blush.

"Dude, you're whipped." Said Noah shaking his head.

I laughed, "I am."
---
Angelina came in later holding two steaming cups.
"Here you go. We had to share coffee even if we're not at the café. That's white mocca by the way."
She said handing me a cup and taking a drink from her own.

"Where's mine?"  Said Noah annoyed.

Angelina flashed him an 'are you a moron' look.

"Yeah how can I forget about your coffee. It would've been the perfect remedy for your kidney failure." She said rolling her eyes.

"Fuck you, Angelina. Now turn on Grey's Anatomy for me."

"That's some depressing shit." I said.

"That's how my days go; Agatha Christie, Grey's Anatomy and no coffee." He said adjusting himself on the bed.

"Now shut up everybody, it's a beautiful night to save lives." Said Noah as the episode started.

After about 7 episodes and Angelina claiming she didn't cry even though Noah and I could swear she did, Noah had dozed off.

"He takes a lot after you, it's scary." I told Angelina as she switched off the tv.

"Yeah we're pretty close." She said smiling in Noah's direction.

A nurse came walking in smiling broadly.

"Hey, you must be Erik." She said.

"Yeah I am." I said returning her smile.

I've always wanted to be one of the popular guys, I mean who doesn't. But I never thought that would happen, especially not at the hospital.

"I'm Sofie. Dr.Richard has some wonderful news to share with you. Looks like your guy brought you some luck." She said looking to Angelina with an even wider smile, if this was even possible.

"Hello Dr.Richard." Said Angelina smiling with her eyes full of hope as she saw the doctor step inside the room.

"Hello Angelina, I come with some news you've been eagerly waiting for." It was his turn to smile now.
His smile was secretive, as if he knew something no one else did.

"Since Noah has been on the donor's list for a while now, he was lucky enough to be pushed up to the top as the patient just above Noah has sadly passed away. We now have a donor with the perfect tissue match. Noah's getting a transplant."

As soon as the words left Dr.Richard's lips,
Angelina hugged him.

"Thank you." She exclaimed and she let out a very deep breath she had held for so long.

Two words. Two words that held so much relief and gratitude.

"It's my job." He said hugging her back.

"Please do not forget to inform your parents, they called in to say they wouldn't make it tonight." He added as he left.

"Did you hear him?" Angelina asked as she made her way towards me.

"Yes I did. Congratulations, I'm so happy for him, for you." I said as I stepped forward.

"He's getting a transplant, he's gonna be okay. Just like you said." Tears were rolling down her cheeks as she smiled.

It was all breathtaking to watch. New emotions came fleeting across her face replacing the old resentful ones.

She was hopeful again, as if hope was the only trigger for the sparkle in her eyes to return.

Hope; what a wonderful akin to relief.

"Yes Angelina, he will be okay." I said as I wiped her tears with my thumb.

We stood there smiling in between tears then she hugged me and held me so tight, as if I was her sanctuary.

And maybe I was.
