Twelve - Lies and Tears

I made my way to the school's door, excitement washing all over my features.

I missed my friends, so much.

My thoughts were interrupted by a heavy body attacking me and I instinctively balled my fist ready to throw a punch when I saw who it was. Just Noel.

"Man I've missed you" said Noel hugging me.

"Wait, what happened to Noel and why did you take over his body? Noel never hugs." I said trying to look serious while hugging him back.

"I got sentimental while my main bro was away" he replied laughing.

Seconds later, we were joined by the rest of the group; Melanie, Jason and Laurel.

I wasn't surprised when Laurel engulfed me into a hug, she was the hugger in our group.

"Dude how was Miami?" Jason said wriggling his eyebrows.
"Umm, it was great, really. Had a good summer." I said trying to hide my nervousness.

Yeah, my summer at Miami was so great. Except that it consisted of me hiding in my apartment in Brooklyn while all my friends thought I was in Miami with my family.

After some greetings, Melanie said way too enthusiastically "The whole squad's here, this totally calls for a group selfie!"
We all gathered around and smiled, real smiles.

"So this is it, our last and final school year" said Laurel.

"We better own it." I said.
"Senior year goals, go!" said Jason.

As if on queue, we all started whispering our senior year goals to ourselves.

When the bell rang signaling 10 minutes for the first class, we all said our goodbyes and headed to the first class after agreeing on meeting over lunch.

The rest of the day went by pretty fast and I was getting giddier by the minute just at the thought of seeing Angelina after school.

English Literature was the only time-worthy class, all the others were excruciatingly boring. Lunch was really fun though, the guys didn't ask much about my 'Miami' trip which made me relax, lying to them felt so wrong.

Lying to anyone feels wrong. Lying leads to more little lies to cover up for the original big lie. It's an endless cycle which mostly ends up by people figuring out you lied to them, which eventually leads to trust issues on the long run. But sometimes, lying is a necessary evil, no matter how bad you feel about it.

Right after school, I headed to the café eagerly.
I scanned the café looking for her but she wasn't here but she told me she'd see me today so I know she's coming.

I chatted with Lilly for a few minutes then went to my usual place to read while waiting for Angelina.

She was late so I texted her –and yes,- we exchanged numbers but it's not like I used it, except for today. Either way, she didn't reply.

It was now 7 pm and she still hadn't showed up and I was being paranoid. Every time someone opened the door, I'd look up hoping it was her.

Nick called me to pick up my second order of the day, "She's not coming" he said sympathetically.

Am I that obvious?

"It's fine man" I said brushing it off trying to act like it was no big deal.
But it was.

"Get a fucking grip on yourself" I whispered to myself.

I mean what if she didn't come? It's okay.

She might've been tired after her first school day or something I don't have to be this attached.

So I pushed my thoughts aside and pursued reading.
Around 9:30 –ish I decided to head back home but my thoughts were killing me.

As I headed to the door while checking my phone, I bumped into someone.

I looked up only to be greeted by her green eyes.
But she was a mess.

"Oh my god Angelina, are you okay?"

She didn't answer, she just hugged me while crying and whispering "I'm so glad you still haven't left"

"Angelina what happened?"
