Chapter 21
We hadn't heard from Hasan whatsoever. Either he'd completely given up on his revenge plot or he was planning something extreme. I was not looking forward to finding out.
Sidra had finished up her cosmetology training and was now working full time. She quit her job at the restaurant, so Omar had hired a new waiter who was a non-Muslim Asian man. I was pretty sure he was Korean and even ogled over him as a joke in front of Zane who sat with a cold, hard expression. He was so cute when he was jealous.
Omar and Sidra planned their wedding to be eight months from now; it would have a winter wonderland theme. Even though there was a lot of time before her wedding, Sidra was constantly having a panic attack while trying to plan everything to be up to her standards. I obviously helped her out since she basically planned everything for my own wedding, but it was hard to help her since she wanted to do everything herself so that it was "perfect."Speaking of weddings, Zane and I were currently at Lisa and Luis' outdoor wedding ceremony. I visited Lisa in her bridal room before heading outside to my seat. She looked gorgeous in a white off-the-shoulder lace ball gown. It was a very simple yet modest dress that suited her perfectly. Her hair was let down in gorgeous brunette waves which was different from her usual style since she always had her hair up in a neat bun. "You look breathtaking," I gasped, as I embraced Lisa in a hug.
"Thank you!" she squealed. "I'm so glad you could make it."
"Of course. I wouldn't miss it for anything. You two make such a sweet couple," I gushed.
"Oh stop," she laughed, adjusting the veil on her head. "Anyway, do you have any advice? I know it doesn't look like it, but I'm freaking out on the inside. I think I might just faint before I can make it to the altar," she said with a huff.
"Deep breaths, Lisa. You'll be fine. Just focus on Luis. He loves you with everything he has."
"Yeah, I know. But I still have butterflies. How'd you get rid of your nerves before you got married?"
I laughed. "I didn't. I was nervous the entire time up until we left the hall. So you're asking the wrong person for advice."
"I figured," Lisa sighed. "I guess I'll just have to suck it up."
It was time for the ceremony to begin so I made my way to my seat next to Zane. The wedding was held in Luis' grandparent's backyard. It was very spacious and looked like a garden. There were flowers all around the area, trees of all different sizes, and vines along the bridal arch. It looked very rustic, which matched the couple's personality perfectly.
Luis stood nervously at the altar, awaiting his wife-to-be. He had on a black suit with a red bow tie. His hair was styled sleekly with gel. He kept fidgeting from one foot to another. It was ironic to me that people who could be in a relationship for years could still feel nervous on their wedding days, even though they already knew that person inside and out.
The ceremony began with a violinist who cued the bridal party to make their entrance. The bridesmaids walked in followed by Lisa's niece and nephew who were the flower girl and ring-bearer. Then, Lisa walked in with her dad. She was radiant in her dress as she walked down the aisle, all signs of nervousness disappearing. We all stood up to honor her entrance. Luis looked baffled as he gazed at her each step of the way. Tears formed in his eyes, which Lisa must've noticed since she started to tear up too. Once she made it up the aisle, the two of them exchanged their vows. During this, I shook Zane who was falling asleep. "Sorry," he mumbled. I held in my laugh because he looked like a deer caught in headlights.
