-----August Alsina
"That's some fucked up shit, man."
"Yea, it is." Avery said with her head layin' on my chest.
"So fucking racist, bruhh!" I said, gettin pissed off all over again.
"She literally sat thea' and insulted our ancestors, bruhh. With all that's going on in the world today, with tha police killings and shit, people like ha ain't doing nothing but makin tha world worse than it already is. Hate crime, hate shamin'. Racism was never cured, but damn. I figured that livin' in 2016, it would be somewhat better. This ain't tha kinda world I'd even want to think about bringin' my kids into. If the world keeps goin' on like this, black people will be extinct. But with all that's goin' on now, I'd rather a cop take my life, instead of my innocent child just because he's black."
Avery nodded ha head. "I understand you, baby. And I agree 100%."
I kissed ha on tha forehead and tried to push everything that happened yesterday to tha back of my mind.
Avery grabbed the remote and turned on the TV.
"It seems like every time I turn the television on, another black man's life is being taken away." She looked out the window.
"It makes me afraid to go outside, sometimes. And you're right; people like my grandmother aren't making this a better place."
She turned tha TV off and wrapped herself up in my arms. I held her as tightly as I could, almost afraid to let go.
"I love you, baby. Don't you ever forget that. And I love our melanin, too." She said. "Just hold me, baby."
I pulled her closer, and just enjoyed her presence. Afterwards, I became instantly relaxed, and heard her light snores. Just as I was about to join her in the nap, thea' was a knock at the door.
I carefully moved her over as I went to answer the door.
"I'm sorry." Austin and Codin spoke simultaneously once I opened it.
Austin looked at him. "You knew I was gonna say that first."
"I actually didn't, but August," he said, facin' me again, "I want to apologize for my wife's actions yesterday. I know today may be past due, but I needed you to know that."
"It's aiight. You'on have to apologize for your wife." I said, grabbin' a water from the fridge.
"Maybe not, but the things she said were disrespectful and wrong. I, personally, love black people." He said, cuttin' himself a piece of watermelon.
"Nice to know."
"Where is Avery?" Austin asked me.
"Sleep."
"Do you know how long she'll be sleep, because we were wondering if you two wanted to go out with us." Codin said.
"Out whea'?".
"Around. Sightseeing. Touring."
"I'm ready!" Avery yelled from tha room.
I shook my head. "I guess we'll go, then."
He laughed a bit and shook his head.
A few minutes lata', she was readyeh to go.
"So where to you guys want to go first?" Her grandpops asked. "Eating or sightseeing?"
"It don't matta." I said as we made our way outside.
"I want to eat first." Ave said. "But what if I get hungry while we're sightseeing and want to eat again? Maybe we should wait. But then again, eating now should hold me over until it's time to eat again."
