Clary has always been silent. After witnessing the brutal murder of her family at age ten, Clary became mute by choice. She hasn't spoken a word since it happened and nothing anyone would say could bring her out of her vow of silence.

When I get to school on Friday I hug my jacket closer, cursing myself for not wearing something heavier. Of course I had to wake up late and rush to get ready without checking the weather today. Even worse, I'm already nervous about my date with Jace tonight. I mean, it's my first real date with a guy that's totally out of my league.
I continue to stress out in my head until Isabelle walks up and interrupts my thoughts of what the hell I'm going to wear. "Are you excited for tonight!?" she yells happily.
I smile slightly and nod. As stressed as I am, I can't imagine going out on my first date with anyone else.
"So, what are you wearing tonight?" When I shrug, she looks at me like I've committed a felony. "You mean to tell me that the date is in nine hours and you have no idea what you're wearing!?"
I shake my head. Jace hasn't told me where we're going.
"And he's probably not going to. Which means you just need to text him asking if you have to dress nicely or not. By the way, I'm soooooo coming over to help you get ready."
I roll my eyes, knowing I can't win. Fine. Speaking of clothes, what are you wearing? It's freezing out here! I motion to her crop top and thin jacket with my eyebrows raised and a quizzical look on my face.
She shrugs slightly. "I guess I'm nocturnal and cold blooded."
I laugh slightly as we make our way into the school building. I part ways with Isabelle as I make my way to my locker. When I get to my locker I smile, seeing Jace standing by it with two cups of coffee in his hands. When he sees me walking over, he smiles too.
"Hey," he says as he kisses my cheek and hands me a cup. "Black like your soul." I chuckle and mouth a thank you to him. "So," he starts, "eaten any good pecan pie lately?"
I immediately start laughing and almost choke on my coffee. I told you to run while you still could!
He laughs with me. "Well excuse me if I didn't know how animated your foster father could get."
Neither did I.
I guess it's story time. When Jace got sucked into staying for dinner, Luke had a little...talk with him. It was a harmless 'what are your intentions treat my foster daughter right' talk until Luke asked Jace if he was a fan of pecan pie. Of course, Jace said yes. And that, my friends, is when Luke told Jace that if he hurt me in any way, he would send him a pecan pie made with some very...special nuts. After that I was very quick to excuse Jace and myself.
Jace laughs and wraps his arm around me. "I guess I'll just have to be really good to you. I mean, I was already planning on it, but I guess now that my nuts are on the line..."
Laughing, I hit his chest before I take a drink of my coffee--making my face pucker slightly. This is not black coffee.
"Whoops. Guess I gave you mine."
What kind of creamer do you have in here? It's so sweet.
"You don't like it? It's vanilla nutmeg."
Laughing slightly, I switch our coffees and take a satisfying drink of my bitter coffee. Did I not tell you to run?
"I just never listen."
We start walking to class together when a thought pops into my head. Hey, where are we going tonight?
"It's a surprise."
I hate surprises.
"You'll love this one."
How am I supposed to know what to wear?
"Formal casual."
You just have all the answers.
"You know it babe."
I roll my eyes as we make our way into class.

I know this chapter is short but it's a filler chapter that I am rush writing in a restaurant in Cork Ireland. Basically, while my family does this European-African trip I can only write and upload when I have wifi.
Also, I apologize in advance for how...iffy this next chapter is gonna be. Usually my sister helps me write the romance stuff because I have this form of ASD which makes it so I can't really comprehend or understand emotion which kind of makes this hard, but it was decided she wasn't gonna go on the trip because it would be harmful to her current situation. But I guess it worked out for someone seeing as my mom let my best friend use all of Efa's tickets and stuff (we just had to transfer them to her name).
Anyway, I'm gonna try to get on FaceTime with her and work on it with her, but it may be lacking in some of the more romantic departments.
