Hello book nerds. So, recently the only story I've been updating is my one shot collection because I've been focusing on a story I've been working on for almost 11 months now. It was really important to me because it was my first actual novel and when I sent the first chapter in to a publishing house I was told with some fine tuning it could have been published.
Notice I'm using past tense.
And I use this wretched tense because earlier today I found the USB hard drive containing all 114 pages of the book chewed up in the back room of my home. Turns out my mom chose today of all days to let our dogs into the one room they're never allowed in. And so, one of them found my USB and decided it would make a great chew toy.
When I found it it took almost twenty minutes to get the thing to slide open. At first I thought the damage was just to the outer shell, but K don't have that kind of luck. Through a lot of crying, I tried in plug it into three computers to find that it couldn't be read.
So that's 11 months of hard work down the drain.
I honestly can't even look at my dog right now because every time I look at him I want to throw something. My mom and I are planning to take it into Best Buy and see if we can get it to work so I can transfer the files tomorrow but there's no guarantee it will work. So, at the moment I'm extremely pissed off for three reasons.
1. It's my fault the USB was back there in the first place.
2. I didn't think to make a backup drive.
3 I could have just wasted almost a full year of my life writing something for nothing.
Yes, I could rewrite it but there is no way in hell I'd be able to rewrite as well as I did the first time. Now, the only thing I have of the series is my journal of preplanned endings for the entire series and random excerpts on Google Docs. Obviously I'm gonna try to rewrite it but I honestly just feel so defeated right about now.
That's all I have for you. I'm not sure when I'll update again but I can tell you now this story is drawing to a close. Im expecting to write 2-3 Australia chapters, 2 chapters back in New York, and then the epilogue.
