SHAWN
•••
isn't it weird how someone can turn from a stranger into someone you care about so much? flashbacks and memories of Charlotte come and go as i hear a faint, muffled voice in the background. "Shawn?" i hear Cameron say. i don't respond.all of this got me thinking, "why? why do i do this? why?" i want answers. there's got to be more than just money. that's not the Shawn i knew when i was little. he didn't see himself as a murderer, or an accomplice. no, he wanted to be on stage, singing. that never happened. i got sucked into this world of horrible things. why am i only realizing this now?
maybe Charlotte's the reason.
just as that thought came to me, i feel my cheek be slapped. "yo, Shawn, my boy, you still alive?" Cameron shouts, "remember the job at hand?" i give him the dirtiest glare i can muster. "aww, daydreaming about a certain Charlotte, are we?" "let me go." i clench my jaw. i don't want to do this anymore. i lost sight of who i was, but Charlotte... she helped me see this through.
"now now, lets not get too hasty here." Cameron smirks devilishly. hasty? he never uses the word hasty. "we need to give you a little injection here."
he picks a needle which i've never noticed until now filled with a clear liquid.
"it'll only hurt a lot so, i'm just warning you now." Cameron tells me, distracted by the liquid inside. "get away from me!" i yell as loud as i can. "woah there," Cameron steps back, startled. maybe, if i yell loud enough, the neighbors will hear and save me, or at least distract him. "calm down Shawn. it'll be alright. this is what we need to do to complete our mission, remember? we're getting paid big bucks for this." "i said, GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME CAMERON." i scream. "Shawn, you are making this hard. plus your screaming is giving me a headache." Cameron rubs his temples.
a sharp knock is at the door. i think my plan worked. "who could that be?!" Cameron growls, stomping his way out of the dim room. once he's gone, i rip the duct tape off my hands and feet. i expected it to be harder to take off, but it wasn't. like, at all.
"ah, yes. i'm so sorry miss." i hear Cameron's voice say. i quickly and swiftly get out of the room and go into his backyard. the front door closes. "Shawn." Cameron coos, "i know you've escaped." i run out into the street and make sure he hasn't seen me or isn't following me. "Shawn. Stop making this difficult." i hear him yell. thats when i decided to run as fast as my legs can handle to a public place. he wouldn't be stupid enough to try anything in a place with a ton of people.
i saw a hospital and realized how close Cameron lived to the hospital me and Charlotte met. i slow down once the hospital doors are clear. the automatic door opens and a lady at the welcome desk looks up at me. "hello sir, how many i help you?" she greets me. i don't answer, trying to catch my breath. she notices, "are you alright?" "yeah, yeah. f-fine." i manage to say, "i just ran here. that's all."
"did you need some water?"
"no. no. i'm good. thanks."
"did you come here to visit anyone?"
i think for a moment. i want to check up on someone who was innocent, and yet was still involved. she didn't deserve what had happened to her.
"i would like to visit Macy Jones please."
