"think about it Charlotte. if you have me as a boyfriend, it will seem like you moved on." Shawn says.

"but i'm not emotional ready for any of this. even if it is just for pretend." i say softly and Shawn takes my hand, "you are strong Charlotte. i can tell. but right now, your thoughts are taking over and you don't want that. now, if we want to act the part, we have to practice. you in?" Shawn asks me rearranging his fingers so they intertwine with mine.

i take a deep breath and lift my head high, "yeah. lets do this."

"we have to come up with a story though." Shawn points out as we walk towards the beach with our hands still intertwined.

"okay," i start, "we've been dating for 6 months. the date is 11/23. how we met, well, we can say we met at the hospital because i was limping and you saw so you helped me out and we've been talking ever since. our first date was at Six Flags and yeah."

"why Six Flags?"

"because i thought Six Flags would be such a great place to have a first date."

"i guess it would be." Shawn starts to smirk but then stops.

i look further ahead to find a familiar figure looking directly at me.

"Charlotte." the figure calls.

"Cameron." i say back.

i look at Shawn and he tightens his grip on my hand, "today, you're my girl and no guy is taking my girl away from me." i smiled and for some insane reason, i felt strong when he said that.

him just next to me gives me confidence. "thanks Shawn." i coo and by the time i finish that sentence, Cameron is already in front of me.

the guy i have loved for a while, who left, standing right in front of me.

"Charlotte, you look beautiful, as always." Cameron states.

"uh, thank you Cameron." i awkwardly say.

"so, who's your friend there?" Cameron asks me pointing to Shawn.

"hi. i'm Shawn. Charlotte's boyfriend." Shawn holds out his hand for a handshake but Cameron isn't budging.

"how long have you two been dating for?" Cameron crosses his arms and avoids the handshake.

"6 months." i answer.

i feel like i am about to explode. i don't know how much longer i can pretend.

"6 months." Cameron echoes, "Charlotte, may i have a word with you alone?"

"sure." i say.

i turn to Shawn and nod my head telling him its okay. Cameron and i walk over to a bench nearby and sit down.

"its been a while." Cameron chuckles, "you've moved on but i haven't. i left to protect you Charlotte."

"i just want to know why you left and where you left to." i spit.

he inhales and exhales. that's when i knew this was going to be a complicated story.
