chapter 16

We reached the Angel’s temple and I gasped. It was a beautiful place, pure white stone that was bathed in an everlasting light. I knew I should feel at ease her, but all I did was long for the darkness of the true hell. All this temple made me feel was unease and even fear. I looked over to Maya and she seemed to look like she too felt the feeling of unease from the temple, next I looked to Damon he too had the feeling of unease on his face. Lastly I looked up towards Raven and, sure enough, she had the same look as Maya and Damon

“why does this place…. Fill us all with dread” I said softly, the three of them looked at me in surprise

“it shouldn’t be filling you with dread” Maya said softly

“if she is who we think she is though…” began Raven

“no” Damon said “she is still a human, she should be feeling safe… something is wrong here…”

“we need to go in there though” Maya said “the Jewel is there”

“Maya” I said softly “how… how did it get there in the first place?”

“that” Maya sighed “is a rather long story…. I fear we do not have the time”

“my lady” Raven said “I believe Damon and I should retrieve the Jewel, you are still too weak to take on the angels and should Ruby-rose come with us, she runs the risk of capture… I am sure the angels are still after her”

“very true” Maya said “Then Ruby-rose and I shall remain here, be very careful though, it is a dangerous place in there, do not let yourself be seen… keep hidden and in the shadows… the angels will attack you without mercy, especially if Garrick is there”

“Garrick?” both Raven and Damon said quizzically

“he is… the most cruel Angel of them all” Maya said, sounding very serious “he is crueller then Lucifer himself… he will not rest until all of our kind are either killed or slaves to the angels”

“we promise to be careful, Lady Maya” the both of them said, bowing to her slightly before they turned to walk off, I moved quickly running up to them and hugging them both “please” I said softly, tears in my eyes “Please come back to me… come back safe”

“Roise” Damon said softly, and I felt a soft kiss on my forehead “we will, I promise”

“no way are you losing us Rosie” Raven said, a giant smile on her face “someone needs to keep you out of trouble”

“thanks” I said laughing, they gave me one last hug then turned to walk off towards the temple. It was hard to let them go, knowing there was a chance I could never see them again. I needed to get my mind off it for a while, I needed to distract myself until they came back “Maya” I said turning to her “since we have time to kill… would you mind… telling me your story now”

“very well” Maya said, sitting down, I sat down next to her, ready to listen

Maya:

I ran as fast as could, the Jewel tight in my hand, I refused to let go of it. How could Lucifer do that to her… our own daughter. I knew he was a cruel, cruel man, but how could he destroy is own daughter. I didn’t need to ponder that right now, I just needed to keep moving. I wasn’t even focusing on where I was going as I ran, that was my mistake, I felt a boot hit my chest and I fell backwards. I looked up to see a man, his eyes a cold icy blue, his hair pure white, a scar trailed down from the beginning of his hair line to the bottom of his jaw and I knew, this was made from one of the lesser “who are you” I said, fear in my voice

“they call me Garrick” the man said “a powerful angel dedicated to removing your kind of scum from the realms”

“please… leave me be” I pleaded with him “I’m no harm to you, I do not see a problem with us sharing the realm”

“sharing!” Garrick said, spitting on me “what would a filthy creature like you know of that word, no, we plan on destroying this world… all we need is…” he looked down and noticed the gleam coming from my hand “I think you have what I want” he grabbed my hand pulling it away from my chest and revealing the Jewel. He bit down on my wrist forcing me to let it go “the Jewel of rosella” he said softly “you know her death has been quite a blessing for us…. Now all we need are the other two parts”

he looked at me closely again and a sly grin came over his face “I know who you are now, I thought you looked familiar” he said “queen Maya” he crushed his heal into my chest “orders are to kill you on site…. You know… I think ill make you suffer, ill start by tearing off your wings” he bent down to grab my wings. Tears were streaming down my face as I felt him pull, but all of a sudden it stopped. I opened up my eyes to see Maxwell’s hand around his throat “scum like you” he said “isn’t permitted to touch my lady” Maxwell threw him away “be gone from my sight” I watched as Garrik scurried away, even the angel knew to be fearful of death.

Maxwell turned to help me up and I took his hand, thinking he was on my side “Maxwell… thank goodness” I said, letting out a deep breath “it is nice to see one of my daughters friends”

“it is nice to see you to, my lady” he said “follow me, I shall protect you in my castle” I nodded and followed him, heading towards his castle. I thought I would be safe there, deaths castle was scary but necessary. We entered his throne room and that was when things went wrong, I was shoved into a strange looking chamber, and that was when I noticed the shadow of Lucifer lurking behind Maxwell “I am sorry my lady” he said softly, my world going blank.

Ruby-rose:

“To this day, I don’t know if Maxwell just wanted to capture me… or protect me” Maya said, concluding her story. I couldn’t believe the story I had just heard, what Maya had been through was horrible, to be betrayed like that. No wonder everyone hated Maxwell “what happened to Garrick?” I asked softly

“he is still around” Maya said “he now leads the angels in hell, be weary of him Ruby-rose… he is a cruel man, there is not a drop of sympathy or compassion in his heart left” those words filled my heart with dread, all I could think was oh no…. Raven and Damon!
