Chapter 14

Damon

I carried Ruby-rose all the way back to the castle, it took a fair while because I was scared of flying with her being so limp, the three days we had been given had almost passed. Raven stayed close by us, she offered a few times to carry her but I refused, I liked having her close to me. In my mind thoughts rang of a simpler time before all this, before I even knew Ruby-rose. The thoughts were of my past love, Rosella was her name. Nothing made my heart beat faster than her, she was beautiful and kind and the only Demon who could ever put me in my place, god how I loved her. However Rosella was the past, Ruby-rose was the future. My feelings for Rosella will never fade but my feelings for Ruby-rose grew day by day.

We reached the castle near the end of the third day, I was glad Ruby-rose was still out of it, she didn’t need that feeling of being lost again. I stopped just outside the castle gates and handed her over to Raven “You two stay out there” I said, removing the staff from Raven’s grip “I’m going in alone”

“What!” Raven said shocked “but that’s not safe… we should be there with you!”

“No” I growled at her “if ruby-rose wakes up in there she will lose her mind… you know it as well as I… and I need someone to watch her, you’re the only one I could ever trust with that Raven… no one else”

“I know Damon but” she leant up and kissed my cheek “be careful…. I don’t want to lose the only brother I have left”

“Dammit Raven, you know I’m too strong for that” I smiled at her and ruffled her hair “be a good little sister and take care of Ruby-rose ok” I said as I walked inside the gate, the last thing I heard as the door closed behind me was “yeah Like I would let my best friend wake up all by herself”

I walked down the hallway, straight to Maxwell. He sat smugly on the throne and next to him was Lucifer “YOU!” I growled at him “what are you doing here you sick mother fucker!”

“It is quite simple” Lucifer said, walking down to me “I come for you, your slut of a sister, and my daughter”

“Well wake up dick breath! We don’t have your fucking daughter” I growled “she died! Remember! You said so yourself”

“Oh come on now” Maxwell finally spoke “all three of us know that’s not the truth…. Her power was simply split up… and we all know your plan Damon, My god you are see through”

“Well, at least I care about her! Unlike you two fuckers!” I turned to Maxwell glaring at him “you were her FRIEND! You were meant to be there for HER and as soon as you get this fucking Reaper gig you leave!” I then turned to Lucifer “and you…. You disgust me even more then him, you’re her father…. You’re meant to protect her instead you treat her like some fucked up mistake”

“she WAS a mistake” Lucifer growled “she took after her mother too much, too independent for her own good… falling in love with a lower class demon like yourself I could tolerate… but trying to take my throne… and all because she thought my leadership style was wrong, that I am too cruel… well she is lucky I just split her power apart”

“You only did that because you knew, you fucking KNEW you couldn’t kill her” I growled at him “she would have taken you down with her! Breaking apart her powers was your only choice and the only way you could do that was by putting Raven and I in harms way you cowardly basterd!”

“Enough of this” Lucifer said, shrugging me off “Maxwell… Release my wife, I want the chance…. No the pleasure of killing this traitorous bitch with my bare hands, I know I can take her”

“Yes my lord” Maxwell said walking over to the gel like chamber she was in

“No you fucking are not!” I growled tackling Maxwell to the ground “now see here boys, this is what’s going to happen, you two are going to let her out of here peacefully, or else this punk dies and no more death… and we all know what that means” I looked up glaring at Lucifer, he actually looked worried, a rarity for him “very well” he said simply “but the moment Death is freed I will be after you” this didn’t surprised me.

I stood up, making sure Maxwell was still in my grips, and walked over the gel chamber. I loosened my grip on one of his hands “do your thing” I said in his ear. He did as he was told, entering a code into the control panel. It took a few minutes but queen Maya was freed, I dropped Maxwell and moved quickly to her side. She was coughing and looked like she had just gotten out of the water “Damon” she said softly “Look out!” I jumped, just barely missing the blast of fire from Lucifer’s hand “lucky jump, but next time I won’t miss” without thinking, I grabbed hold of Maya and took off as fast as I could. Dragging her with me as I ran through the castle.

Before I could leave though I knew I had to grab two things, the staff had been dropped when I had tackled Maxwell, it was easy enough to get back around to grab it. I took hold of it and strapped it to my back while I was hiding behind a wall with Maya, the orb was harder to find, the castle was large and maze like, but I used that to my advantage, ducking in-between corridors and making sure to check every room until I found it in a bedroom which I assumed to be Maxwell’s. Once I had retrieved it I gave it to Maya “Keep it safe, and keep a tight hold of it” I said to her, I grabbed hold of her arm and finally reached the exist of the castle

Outside Raven looked at me in shock “Grab her and move!” I yelled at her, Raven did as I said, grabbing Ruby-rose and running with me. Behind us I noticed Lucifer following but not Maxwell, I didn’t care, three against one was better odds then two against one. He continued to shoot fire balls at us. I knew I couldn’t face him head on, there was too much risk for that, to Maya and Raven and Ruby-rose “Come on guys!” I said, we will move quicker in the air”

“but Ruby-rose!” said Raven

“She will be killed for sure if we don’t!” I yelled back, she nodded

“Hold on tight my queen” I said taking her into my arms and taking off, Raven not far behind me. All we heard as she flew was the loud growls of agony, Lucifer was trying to fly “that Fool” said Maya “he should know his wings are too broken to fly with…. This is the reason I crippled him like this, so if need be, we could always get away… Thank you Damon… I have what you need, it’s not far from here… I placed it within the temple the Angels built on our lands… but first we rest, I do not want us heading there with one of us unconscious” I nodded, she was right, the angel’s temple was the worst place Ruby-rose could be while she was unconscious, the angels there would take her straight away. At least with her awake she could run, but it was still risky. That Marcus was on our trail and he wouldn’t give up easily. He needed to learn that ruby-rose wasn’t his to protect anymore, and I planned on teaching him that lesson personally.
