Chapter 8

A week later already I was starting to get used to the new routine I had every morning. Wake up at dawn, get dressed, meet Nadir in the tunnels, go to the phantom, talk, try to figure out his task, say goodbye to Nadir, then return back to the hotel right in time for breakfast so Mick was unsuspicious.

The phantom always was strange around me but I tend to think it was because he chose me to help him. Little did I know how he really felt, what did he think about me? I started to feel like he was keeping something from me. Every day he would get grumpier and grumpier especially when Nadir would act closer to me. Nadir was quite a flirt due to his young looking face yet his charm never really worked on me yet he kinda had a dark side.

Every time Nadir would simply smile at me for a moment Erik would throw papers down then throw a hissy fit. Now I was seeing what Nadir meant.

Today I woke up, flat ironed my brown curls and threw on some clothes. I wore black skinny jeans, a white crop top, white vans, and a small diamond cross necklace.

Making my way down into the tunnels as usual, I met Nadir. "Good morning Jacqueline, looking beautiful as always" He smiled following me down to the lake.

"Thank you" I grinned thankfully motioning him along.

As we waited at the edge of the lake I noticed how silent Nadir was this morning. He'd usually be going on about how him and Erik escaped Persia or something, I never actually listened to his stories.

"What's up with you" I poked his arm getting his attention.

Nadir looked up at me with a strange serious look "I have some news from Erik but I am unsure if I am to tell you. I believe he wants to wait to tell you."

I nodded understanding it must have been quite important to be told to me at the right time so I left it at that. "Well um, speak up it's weird not hearing you talk" I changed the subject to a positive one.

He gave a sigh rolling his eyes at me "You are are very strange you know that?"

I scoffed "I actually am strange, talking to ghosts and all. I could be sent to the nut house for this" I pointed out.

"Well it's a good thing you haven't yet" Nadir remarked as he leaned on his cane.

Thinking about it, I was very lucky that no one noticed me go under the opera house everyday. Plus what if this was only my imagination. Maybe I was drugged or dreaming. I still couldn't believe all this was really happening. And the fact it was happening to me.

"My Jacqueline!" Erik called from his small boat interrupting Nadir and I with a hint of jealousy in his eyes.

I smiled up at him pleasingly "Whas up Erik?" I waved at him as he drew closer. It felt so weird calling him by his real name.

Docking his boat he shrugged "I've been writing a lot more music for the first time" He answered

Hopping on with Nadir I noticed a surprised look on his face "So is that a good thing?" I cautiously questioned Erik.

"Of course" Erik gleamed earning a worried look from his Persian friend. I flashed Nadir a look of confusion.

"Well enough about music, tell us Erik have you figured out your task?" It seemed Nadir knew something because it was like he was basically telling Erik to spill out their secret.

Rowing on Erik turned his head back on the waters keeping quiet for a moment "I may have but I am not entirely sure" he answered in a low tone.

"What is it?" I beat Nadir this time but I knew he probably already knew what it was he was just trying to get Erik to tell me.
