"There isn't enough room she can't come back to Atlanta I'm sorry but she has to stay behind and defend herself".

Those are the exact words the soldier said with remorse.

My mom, dad and little sister got on the helicopter to Atlanta without me. But I wasn't sad I was okay with the fact that my family was safe.

I've seen a lot of zombie shows and zombie movies to know enough about our kind of apocalypse.

It all started December 24th 2020

The day before Christmas.

It's kind of ironic because Christmas was supposed to be happy I'm not full of The Walking Dead.

In November 12 genetically modified foods at first was a good idea since thanksgiving was coming up. The demand of turkeys and roast beef was at high demand but food companies couldn't supply the massive population. Food corporation made the decision to not sort out the sick turkeys from the healthy ones in order to comply the the high demand. By the time thanksgiving was over many civilians were sick and hospitalized from negative effects of the genetically modified sick turkeys. Soon the disease spread where people couldn't be hospitalized or cured of this sickness. The sickness made people aggressive and a serious case of the munchies.

It was no surprise on how fast this disease spread it eventually reached where I lived and took over my neighbors and everyone around me only my family and three other families in my neighborhood survive until the army came here to take them to Atlanta. My family was last family that could fit on the helicopter to Atlanta there are a lot of people and a lot of little kids and my dad was half blind and my little sister was really attached to my mom. Everyone was terrified so a soldier looked at me and said I'm sorry.
My parents screamed and yelled for me to stay on the helicopter but the solider said
" she's the most fit out of all of you. She will most likely survive on her own".

A soldier got off the helicopter to tell me something before they flew off he said

" this is the last helicopter, after that there won't be any there won't be any helicopters coming down here anymore you have no choice but to survive on your own I'm sorry."

I looked at him straight in the face and said

"I understand."

The soldier looks towards the helicopter and give me a big duffle bag he was really heavy.

He handed it to me and look me in the eyes and said

" there are four pistols in the duffle bag with a box full of ammo and a survival guide that shows you all the necessary guidelines on how to survive on your own there is also a medkit but use it wisely those are really hard to come by in these times. If you look around with as you travel look for gun stores and take all the ammunition you look for scraps if you have too every bullet counts always remember that."

With the end of that sentence I nod my head.

He pats me on the shoulder and said "good luck to you kid"

He jumps onto the helicopter and I watch the sky as the helicopter leaves my site.

I run to the house and get my clothes I look for my 5 t-shirts, 2 pair of shorts ,and 4 blue jeans with my undergarments. I go into my closet to get two of my jackets and my boots and put on my converse.

Going into the kitchen and grabbing a couple of canned foods from what I had. Folding my clothes into very tight roles I stuck them in a backpack and put the canned foods in a small potato sack.

I grab my dads keys and put all my bags that I already had pack into the truck. I looked around my neighborhood I realize that I literally was all alone. Thinking to myself I know that those things are still out there roaming around and that there are only gone for a moment, but they'll be back.

Running back into the house I thought "where am I going to go?"

My whole family already left I'm the only one here.

Running to my room I grabbed my sketch book and my pencils also grab a very small blanket but it was enough to keep me warm on cold nights. I walk into my parents room and grab our family picture had look at it for a while. I folded it up and put it in my pocket. Thinking to myself wait we still have electricity for now I should charge my phone an mp3 player so that we have music.

Waiting for a couple minutes to pass my phone is fully charged and took my charger to the car and my mp3 player and threw it on the seat.

Running to the porch I grave the two large gas to us my dad has hidden under the wooden planks. From the distance I hear my phone ring.
For a split second I couldn't think of who would be calling me.
I pull out the tanks and rush to the car.

*looks at cell phone "baby cakes"*
