She froze when the word toys slipped from his mouth, her breath catching for a moment. But, as always, Harley recovered quickly, flashing a wide smile and grabbing her trusty bat. She silently hoped he hadn't noticed her brief pause.
With a bounce in her step, she headed toward the door, eager for whatever chaos was next. "Are ya ready, puddin'?" she asked sweetly, turning to look at him as he came up behind her.
He nodded, his movements sharp and calculated as he stepped ahead, taking the lead.
Her heels clicked rhythmically against the concrete, and though she tried to slow her pace, excitement bubbled up inside her. Me and Mr. J. The thought made her heart race in a way she couldn't control.
Clasping her hands together, her fingers interlocking, Harley slipped into a daydream. Images of the two of them causing mayhem together, of chaos and glory, played in her mind like a movie. She envisioned a future full of madness and love—pure perfection.
"Harley!" His voice cut through her thoughts, and she blinked, quickly snapping back to reality.
The Joker was staring at her, his fingers snapping in front of her face, impatience written all over his expression.
"Are we close?" she asked, her voice soft, tilting her head as she looked up at him.
He stepped closer, and just like that, the butterflies in her stomach went wild.
"We're here," he said, his voice laced with amusement. He swept his arm to the side, revealing the entrance to a massive warehouse.
Two of their men stood guard at the doors, their faces blank, their bodies taut with attention. The heavy doors swung open as the Joker gestured for Harley to enter.
She strutted inside, her bat casually slung over her shoulder. The dim lighting of the warehouse cast long, eerie shadows, but Harley's eyes were immediately drawn to the figure suspended in the center of the room.
The Bat.
Hanging upside down, his cape draped over his broad shoulders like some twisted curtain.
"Oh, B-man!~" she called out teasingly, her voice dripping with sweetness. She swung her bat lazily over her shoulder as she sauntered toward him, a grin spreading across her face.
Behind her, the Joker's signature laugh filled the cavernous space, sharp and unsettling. The warehouse doors slammed shut with a loud thud, sealing them inside with Gotham's caped crusader.
The night was just beginning, and Harley couldn't wait to see what trouble they'd stir up next.
